Wow, this is retired? That will be news to my brother, who brought a sixer to our 4th of July "party" last week. I was likewise surprised to see this labeled as a pale ale. The look and nose is all Gose. Big fluffy white head over translucent gold. Nose is strong with citrus, grapeskin, banana bread and yeast.

Kind of salty and quenching like a Gose, but also a bit grainy in the texture. Definitely refreshing, but a little bit of a face pucker. Also, almost certainly long expired. A little too much like its intended namesake (the wine, not the band) for me.

Still kept 1 beer out of the 6 pack bc I heard it isn't made anymore, the ol C&D letter. Purchased from Argonaut Liquors in Denver this summer.

Expected this to pour a rose like color, instead its a pretty thin gold + rose looking in terms of malt quotient. The aroma was really muted. Not much going on I thought. A bit of hibiscus.

Taste was again the mildest pale ale I've come across in a long time. Didn't push a hoppy body. Shit I thought this was more like that fruit/field category, I dunno maybe they need an herb and flowers one. Lacked an appreciable degree of sour or tartness to it. I dunno, perhaps my expectations were out of line.

Can't really imagine drinking this outside of the hottest of weather. If this beer were a Guns N Roses album, it would be either the Spaghetti Incident or Chinese Democracy.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Nearly clear light golden pour with thick fluffy white head. Nice lacing.

S: Tart and fruity... hibiscus and berry.

T.F: Tart fruit up front. Light grains and hibiscus. Some floral character and citrus. Medium to light bodied with effervescent carbonation. More tart fruit at the finish.

O: A solid beer... especially seeing as I picked it up due to the band name association. Certainly not an APA.... has really nothing to do with that style. More of a tart fruit beer. Clean and easy drinking.

12oz can into a pint glass. Canned 3/21/29, so five months old

Clear golden yellow body with small streams of carbonation. The small white head quickly dissipates to a ring, leaving no lacing.

Floral, almost perfume aroma.

Upon tasting, there is a fruity berry taste, seeming a little artificial. Some wine notes. Bitterness, which I take to be the prickly pear. There's a fair amount going on here, and as confusing as it is, it's not unpleasant overall.

Mouth above medium, finish dry and a little bitter

Overall, this review seems a bit all over the place, but then so is this beer, at times good, other times a bit off.

Slightly hazy, straw-colored, thin white head recedes quickly; very mild aroma, nothing particularly identifiable; clean, sparkly mouthfeel; Very mild flavor, a little bit sour; Not bad, but nothing special.

I saw this beer on the news the other day - the band Guns N Roses decided not to sue them over the name. Anyhow, when I saw it on the shelf, that's why I chose it.

From the name, I expected something with a bit of wine color, aroma, or flavor. I got none of that, though from reading some of the reviews, apparently, somebody did. Crimson color with a pinkish head? Not mine.
