Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Mama's Little Yella Pils - Our upcoming new canned good is a small-batch version of the beer that made Pilsen, Czechoslovakia famous. Mama's is made with hearty amounts of pale malt, German specialty malts, and a blend of traditional (Saaz) and 21st century Bavarian hops. Our first canned lager, it's also fermented at cool temperatures with a German yeast.

This tasteful reality Czech is the perfect antidote for the watered-down versions of pilsner clogging Americaâ's shelves. And Mama's gentle hopping (about 35 IBUs) and low ABV (just 5.3%) mean we're finally honoring consumer requests for a delicious but less-challenging beer. (Hey, we like a good low-dose session beer, too.) Look for our Gold Metal Winner on US shelves in March.

Sadly, the Feds rejected our Take Two and Call Us in the Morning line on the can.

A classic American Pale Lager with strong Bavarian and Bohemian influence. Mamas Pils has been a benchmark brew that stays true to style and tradition. Easy drinking, pale straw/yellow, 5% cloudy, eperfesant, rocky bubbles, small trace of lacing, low-moderate bitterness, crisp, honeysuckle, passion fruit, lemon peel, surprising tart but over the top, dry, slight mineralality, low tannins, and pleasantly poundable. Love the new label and lowering the ABV. When I reach for this style I prefer a lighter interpretation like this new branded "Mountain Pilsner" at 4.7%. I personally feel that the name of this particular beer should be called Mountain Pale Lager. Rocky Mountain water with European Pale Lager ingredients. The Pilsner name should be reserved to its original region, Pilsen.

Apparently Mamas little yella pils changed it's formula. Same can but on the top it says "Mountain Pilsner" And it is now 4.7% ABV. Looks bright golden yellow, Smells earthy,(somewhat neutral)Taste is a hoppy pils like bite and then malty sweetness. Feels crisp and refreshing. Very crushable. Overall not a bad take on an American pils.

Poured into pint glass.
Not that carbonated, or so it seems.....smal head dissipates quickly, but....
Great rich golden color and clarity
Aroma is fresh mineral water, light mountain stream floral clover creek water smell, grains on the wind...just want MORE. It could use more aroma, but hey it ain't for sniffin. It for sure is for great drinkin beer! Love it.
That carbonation you thought was gone....it's still in there....so fine and effervescent....refreshing
Hops flavors and edge balance with the honey malts, superb finish.
Will be keeping this around regularly in the coming warmer months.

L — Pours a clarified golden straw body with 1.5 fingers of white head produced with moderate pour. Some retention and minimal lacing
S — Grains, dried citrus peel, hint of floral and sulfur
T — Lovely dry doughiness, mild herbaceous/spicy hoppiness, touch of honey and floral
F — Very crisp, clean, and refreshing. Light mouthfeel, medium+ carb
O — One of my favorite American-made pilsners. Having this outside in the sun on the first 80+ degree day of the year and it’s hard to imagine that this could get more refreshing

I'm not a big Pilsner fan, but this has a nice blend of hops and malts that make it more flavorful than I expected. This a Pils I could stock for friends, but still drink myself. Served at Oak and Stone.

Very solid. Classic clear golden color with moderate white head. Not a lot for the nose but mine doesn't work well either. Very full flavor and balance between the pilsner malt and noble hops with a pleasant hop spiciness on the end. The hop profile reminds me more of a German pils but with prominent malt character this is more like a pilsner fusion. It takes the best of both and I think it's a winner.

Canned 3/5/18, consumed 4/12/18

Pours clear gold, same color as the can basically. Huge head, good lacing.

Not my favorite pils aroma, grassy, but not bright, more like wet and a bit rank.

Taste is a much better, balanced mix of the malt, yeast, and brighter hop flavor here.

Medium feel, could definitely use more carbonation. Clean, not bitter at all.

Overall, decent pilsner.

12oz canned 2/15/18 (54 days ago) poured into a pokal glass at fridge temp 4.7% ABV (per label). The beer pours bright light straw yellow with off white head. The head recedes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is mild with grassy hops. The taste is smooth pilsner malt at first, with a fairly solid bitter punch of grassy hops coming on mid palate, and staying through the end. Mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied, well carbonated, or at least a bit prickly in feel, and dry in the finish. Overall, excellent. This is a very nice pilsner with affordable packaging.

Everything I have tried from Oskar has been tasty. A firm two finger head with fair retention. The bright white head left lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 3 a straw color with golden hues. The clarity of the beer is clear with carbonation bubbles.
Nose:
Floral, crackers, herbal, spicy, grass, and yeast aromas.
Taste:
A bright floral flavors with a spicy herbal, grass, lightly toasted malts, grass, and yeast.

The mouthfeel of the beer has a medium dryness and crisp. The body of the beer is medium light, a medium carbonation, and a medium finish.

Typical pilsner profile, nothing stands out. An example of a decent Chech Pilsner.

I mean, it looks good, or fine, really, for a Pilsner. It’s like describing a girl with blonde hair - it’s blonde. Moving along... Smell is of grass, and like, grass. Ok... taste is ok at first: grass, but then rusted metal like your cousins POS Chevy - not a fan. Overall like a hooker in TJ, it does the trick. But it also leaves you second guessing yourself.

This beer pours a very light golden color, almost white. 1 finger white head. Retention is good.
The nose is minimal. Just slight malt.
Taste slightly sweet. Some malt. Slight hops.
Feel is a bit thicker than I'd expect, but it is a thinner beer.
Not the biggest Pilsner fan, but this isn't bad.
