Very Good
Notes: Gubna was bred from Oskar Blues Brewery’s hankering to confront 100+ IBUs by cranking up the complexity of hops by pouring Cascade on top of copious amounts of Summit, then balancing that with a backbone of German Dark Munich Malt and Rye Malt. GUBNA’s post-fermentation dry-hopping with both hops allows this monstrosity to gently coax the citrus rind and grapefruit aroma while providing a rye malt-induced, spicy-yet-round middle, and a brisk, clean bitter finish (10 percent ABV, 100+ IBUs).

Bottom of the can says, "Use can as pillow". (words to live by)

Guy at the liquor store thought it was the best beer ever and it was Oskar Blues so I had to try it. Called "Gubna" because it's what you say when you try to say "Governor" after drinking 2 of these beasts.

A - Deep orange color. Hazy DIPA with lots of white head coming out of my glass and strong lacing.

S - Extra strong hop fragrance with lots of citrus and resiny tones. Could smell it before I picked it up. Almost perfume like from the magnitude of aromatics. Alcohol definitely present as well.

T - Full flavored with a pungent hop character that has resin, citrus, fruit, herb and with some alcohol and malt to round it out. Full bitterness from the alpha acids but it isn't the only thing you taste with the malt other flavors mixing together to make this beer complex and tasty.

M - Strong mouth-feel with high carbonation. Lingering finish with hops, malt, and alcohol.

Overall, a solid IIPA. Great aroma, and good flavor, feel, appearance, but doesn't have as much citrus character as I love in an IIPA. This brew isn't nice to your palate but if you like big, resiny, and complex beer I'd recommended it.

12 oz can poured into a Firestone glass.Smell is a strong Grapefruit.Surprisingly mild taste for a 10.0 ipa but not one of the better IPA`s i`ve had.Don`t think i would buy this again.I bought this on the strength of 10/50 being so good but this is not close to as good of beer as that one is.

Pours a light copper color with a finger of head. The nose has notes of earthy hops. The flavor profile has notes of malt, dankness and alcohol. The finish is not particularly hoppy.

A decent imperial IPA from a can. It has a great drinkability that you don't get too often from an imperial. It's smooth, not too bitter and has a great finish and a unique taste. I'm drinking it on the beach and it is just a great beer. I wouldn't think of an imperial being beach material, but it is!

Oskar Blues brewery does a great job with their packaging too. Always fun and interesting to read the cans.

The can pours a hazy golden amber body with a small bone white head. Decent retention and some scattered lacing.

Aroma is sharp and pungent. I get a dose of wild onions underneath grassy, herbal, and earthy notes.

Mouthfeel has a unique acrid bitterness that is disconcerting. Otherwise, medium in body and carbonation.

Taste has a sharp and aggressive hop bitterness that is almost medicinal. A hint of malty caramel is just an afterthought and does little to balance. There is almost a raw ginger character that takes your breath. Finishes dry, earthy, and rough. Alcohol, at least, is concealed very nicely.

Hops here are rough and raw. This one comes off as unsophisticated and nearly undrinkable. An interesting effort from a brewery whose other products I greatly enjoy.

I grabbed a can of this at State Line the other day.

The pour is gorgeous, light orange with a dense off-white head with excellent retention. Clarity could be better, and lacing is a little disappointing but really, I'm not complaining.

The nose is solid. Pineapple hop character is present quite big and fruity with grapefruit and some orange. Strangely, I don't get the onion/garlic character that I've gotten from the only other all-Summit beer I've had, and that could be a result of my drinking this after a meal. The rye spiciness is quite low, almost unnoticeable, really. Solid stuff. As it warms up, though, the onion character really grows, reminding me of a raw vidalia onion

The palate opens with plenty of pineapple hop character, both biting, juicy and fruity. I can't remember the last beer I had that was this pineapple-like. Sweetness is moderate with some candied pineapple and sugar, I can't say that I can taste either the dark munich or the rye in this. Simultaneously sweet and moderately drying on the finish with plenty of pineapple and citrus hop character, there's some resin as well. I quite like the balance between the bittering and flavor hops. Carbonation is moderate and quite incredibly smooth. Pretty darned drinkable, I'd say. Again, as it warms up, some onion is noticeable.

Drinking this after a moderately spicy Indian meal, the onion and garlic character of this hop are hidden quite well. I'll have to try this on a clean palate to see what I think.

A canned DIPA.. I love it. The sticker price of $16.99 a 4-pack is a hard to digest but given it's 10% and less than $5 a beer it's not too bad.

Pours an attractive cloudy orange color. The beaming white head is rich and thick but dissipates to a blanket. Lots of lacing is left behind. V. good.

Smell is also good. Citrus fruits and malt. A touch more complexity would be nice.

The taste is a bursting of citrus hops over top of a malt back drop. Its very well done. My only criticism is that its lacking complexity. The alcohol is extremely well hidden and it ends with a nice bitter finish which keeps you coming back for more.

Mouthfeel is excellent. Soft and silky smooth but with a crisp hoppy and carbonation bite.

Drinkability, for a beer of this strength, is through the roof.

Overall, one hell of a beer.

Poured into a tulip.

Appearance- Pours a orangeish yellow, a bit hazy. A thin two finger head dissipates to about a half a finger in a few seconds. Decent lacing or alcohol legs.

Smell- Strong pineapple, very juicy and refreshing. A slight medicinal smell. Not much else, mainly dominated by the tropical fruits.

Taste- An initial malty sweetness is almost immediately dominated by a ton of bitterness. A little of the tropical fruit in there, with pineapple and mango. This is overshadowed by the bitterness all the way through. The finis is long with, once again, a lingering hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel- Medium body and moderate carbonation. Slight effervescent sting early on.

This beer is too one-dimensional for me. Strong flavors of bitterness overshadow the nicer, but more subtle, aspects of the beer. No depth or layers here.

Deep orange to amber with a thick, nearly white head. Lines, splotches, and dots of lacing mess the glass.

Aroma is a combination of grapefruit and earth. There's a bit of toffee and caramel and a touch of musty vegetable aroma as well.

Relatively high bitterness, grapefruit, and earth/dirt flavors combine. The alcohol is present throughout, though this is a fairly big DIPA at 10% ABV.

Medium to thick bodied.

An above average DIPA, though I think using only Summit hops doesn't make for the best DIPA.

I actually enjoy the Gubna better in a can than in a keg. Having both I find that either way I am going to pour it into a snifter. The high ABV is a plus but this means I can only have a few. the color is a pretty brown much like its label. Coming from Colorado, I am always a fan of brewing beer in the homeland.
