12 oz can from the brewery taproom in Brevard NC. Purchased there in May 2022 but canned back on 3 June 2021.

Appearance. It has a nearly opaque, dark reddish-brown body with a short beige head that quickly recedes to a thin partial coat.

This had an aroma that definitely suggests flapjacks covered in maple syrup. The delightful maple aroma carries over to the flavor, but the flavor has too much vanilla, diluting the maple component and increasing the apparent sweetness a bit beyond optimum for me.

Overall. Highly recommended for fans of dark, maple syrup flavored ales ... this one actually delivers on the promise of maple sugar aroma and flavor.

Oskar Blues Death By Flapjacks Porter, 6.5% ABV. Pours thin and black with a real nice 4-finger light brown head the left good lacing. Nose is maple and vanilla. Taste is maple, vanilla, nutmeg, and lemon, slightly sweet, a twinge of lemon tartness and moderate bitterness. With a name and nose like that, I had hoped for a pastry porter, but sadly, no. Decent smooth mouthfeel with a little dryness at the end. Overall very good.

It's a stout (OK, "porter") flavored with maple syrup, vanilla, and lemon peel. That's exactly what it tastes like, as well - which is a good thing.

Another reviewer noted the lemon flavor, as did I, without knowing ahead of time that lemon peel was added to the mix (I assumed it was hop expression). It's not at all unpleasant, and adds a nice layer of brightness to what could otherwise be far too sweet, with plenty of maple and vanilla flavor. The nutmeg is incorporated judiciously, adding a touch of flavor without overpowering.

The only drawback is that it drinks much thinner than most probably prefer for this style (myself included), but at 6.5%, it's also much more approachable than the double digit flavor bombs many other breweries lean toward.

Dark brown to black in color with just a bit of light seeping through when held up to light. There’s a fingernail of brown around the rim and covering most of the top. Faint, soapy lacing. The aroma is of maple syrup, nutmeg, vanilla, and lactose. I’m tasting initially lemon and then quickly maple syrup, vanilla, and lactose. The lemon keeps things from being too sweet. The mouth is dry and moderately carbonated.

Pours a dark brown nice two finger head that leaves some good sheet lace.

Aroma is lots of maple, vanilla and lemon not much nutmeg or the maple lemon is covering it up. Little strange smelling to me guess I'm picking up to much lemon and don't understand it.

Taste is porter with good doses of maple syrup, vanilla, lemon but very lightly not near what my nose was getting which is probably a god thing, ah there is the nutmeg. Also porter flavors light roasted malts but they are pretty much over shadowed by the added maple. Also for a lactose brew feels light not getting milk sugars except for the sweetness which may be the maple.

Mouthfeel seems light for a lactose brew carbonation is mediumish.

Overall had friends go crazy over this one, eh interesting maybe but not something I would care to have again.

Pours a dark brown. Tan foam. Maple syrup aroma. Big maple syrup flavor with a nice roasted malt finish. Doesn't taste artificial. The right amount of sweetness. Very good.

Drinking this at Tapped Craft and Drafts in Greenville NC.
Poured from a tap into a pint glass.
Looks dark brown almost black with a nice foamy tannish head that dropped to a thin cap.
Smells malty, sweet, coffee, maple syrup and vanilla.
Taste follows the nose nicely, very much a sweet desert beer.
Mouth feel sticky sweet on the front of my palate.
Overall a very nice desert beer, one is enough, but really quite delicious.
I would definitely order again.
Cheers!

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass, pours a dark brown with a 2 plus khaki head that leaves loads of thin lace, with excellent retention. 4.25

Aroma maple is dominant, maybe some vanilla, a hint of coffee, and a little chocolate. 3.5

Taste follows huge maple, vanilla, coffee, a hint of lemon, and cocoa. 3.5

Mouthfeel a tad thin, enough carbonation, maybe a tad dry, and at 6.5% pretty big on flavor and goes down easy enough. 3.75

Overall this 4 pack, will be the only of this variant, not great for me. If you love maple it might be your thing. 3.5
