Smoked malt is one of the more dubious tools in a brewer's bag because thresholds are vastly different. What to one palate is a hint of bacon or a whiff of BBQ to another is ashtray or Band-Aids. How can Carton ignore playing this game? Where can smoldering aromatics go off the beaten craft? in SWISHR we have reassembled the deconstructed aspects of Swisher Wrap. Rich dark malts brought smoky by the addition of oak smoked pale wheat, touched with sour cherries and a heavy plug of hops that smell like their cousins. Drink SWISHR and hand me down a 50-pack.

16 oz can. Bottom of the can reads, "START @ 46F, CANNED ON 4/19/18."

Very dark brown in color, almost black. Opaque, but when held up to the light you notice its dark brown hues and great clarity. Large, creamy, soapy, tan head with great retention.

Aroma is filled with smoke, tobacco, marijuana, and fruit (although it would have been difficult for me to pick out cherry if I didn't already know). I'd say they nailed the aroma of a blunt pretty damn well.

The flavor is really unique. Heavy smoke with a resinous aftertaste. It's a big, full bodied beer that drinks more like something in the 8-10% ABV range.

I love the way Carton plays with flavors like this. This beer shows off their brewing skill, as I could easily see this combination of flavors becoming a mess if another brewery attempted to make it. Not a beer that everyone will like but I enjoyed my 4-pack thoroughly.

16 oz can with a mangled date. I think these were made in April, 2018. Poured into Belgian ale glass.

L: 1F head with good retention, foamy off-white lacing, and a cap and ring. Beer is a dark red brown.

S: Smoky, dark cherry, and definitely a tobacco-like whiff. It's your first machine-cut cigar, but not quite as nasty.

T: More or less the same as the nose. Dark smoked malts definitely predominate.

F: Medium bodied, moderately carbonated. Balance and construction are OK.

O: Fun as an off-beat one-timer.

Canned 4/19/2018. It pours a mahogany color with dark cola hues when held to the light, and over a finger of creamy, long-lasting khaki-beige head and thick, soapy lacing. It's quite attractive. The nose is rather subdued but features roasted malt, tobacco smoke, cherry, and a whiff of caramel. As the glass warmed the tobacco became more apparent. This ale opens with some cherry sweetness that is quickly overwhelmed by tobacco smoke and char. There is also a subtle sweet malt and a dose of bitter hops at the finish. The tastes blend nicely. I find it more flavorful than the typical smoked beer. It features a really nice, creamy mouth feel with moderate carbonation, and it's an easy drinker at 6% ABV. Overall, I'm impressed. Cherry Swishr features a nice balance of sweetness and burnt, bitter char. Pair it with a big, juicy burger with bleu cheese.

Smells Cherry, light char, vinegary smoke hints and caramel malt.

Taste light Cherry tartness, light toasted and caramel malt, Char and smoke hints. Finish is dry with cherry and a smoke linger. Medium body and fizzy medium carbonation.
