Notes: Brewing with Barrier is almost as cool as drinking with Barrier. Every time we get together Boat and Money are passed back and forth. We drink merrily while lamenting not having a tank to play in together. For this ensemble effort we took the things that make us happy together and put them together. Barrier and Carton took a classic cream ale version of the Need A Bigger Boat recipe to Smutt Labs. We swapped American 6 row in for the base malt, fermented cold with both beer’s common Kolsch yeast, held it cold for a while, then dry-hopped it within an inch of its life with Money’s hops. Drink C.R.E.A.M. because colabs rule everything around me.

Smooth and creamy for sure, soft and light, but presented more like a DIPA (8.4% abv) with a twist than a cream ale with a twist. Know what I mean? Soft fruit flavors, a gentle malt base, and some bitter, fruity hops - very drinkable, and appealing to me, a fan of pale-to-amber ales in the 7-8% abv-range.

4/26/16 canning date

A: Pours a nice clear amber color. Very tall, very frothy light tan head. Great head retention. Spotty bits of lacing.

S: Sweet crisp maltiness initially. Then comes the grapefruit and a hit of spicy, herbal and maybe even piney hops?

T: Hmph. Grapefruit up front. Lots of spicy, herbal hops, especially in the middle. Strong sweet maltiness, grains and with tons and tons of vanilla. Hit of bitterness in the finish with a fresh wave of hops, more grapefruit and spicy, piney hops. Get some uncooked bread dough and more vanilla to help balance it out in the finish/aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied, smooth and dry.

O: Huh, a dry-hopped imperial cream ale, that might be a first for me. It's not super hop forward but it is heavy on the hops in general. Base cream ale is super interesting, doughy and vanilla-y. It makes for a unique brew that I can't quite describe right. I swear I even get chocolate at points. It's good though, that's for sure.

Admit it we drink beer because we can have a different one every night.
Outstanding collaboration, and as original, novel as they come. Here's to collaborative beer.

A: Pours a hazy golden honey orange w moderate amounts of active carbonation, sporting a two finger foamy beige head that reduces to a slab of dense foam and a thick ring at the edges, as it laces spiders.

S: Abundant, strong aromas of peach, mango, and citrus hops over equal aromas of dank, herbal hops, followed by a light aroma of biscuit and pale malts. Powerful! The nose is happy, fresh, abundant.

T: Upfront follows that tropical nose, with a hint of sweetness and vanilla. Strong flavors of peach, mango, and citrus hops, very juicy, followed by deft and left of center, dank and herbal hops. Lingering bitterness tempers the sweet, juicy hop flavor.

M: CREAMY, medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Woody, crispy cream.

O: A flavor and ABV bomb - be careful out there. Try 24. Carton / Barrier original arrangement.

Can poured into a snifter

Clear amber, thin layer of whitfoam settles quickly to some layers

Aroma of orange citrus, pine

Hop forward, citrus, pine

Interesting mouthfeel, starts off creamy and then hops kick in with a bite , lingers

Interesting beer

Hazy orange body with tons of white floaters and the Horton and a fluffy cream-colored head on top. Aroma is primarily bready, doughy grains with some citrus and piney hops. Flavor balances out the sweet bready malt more with some piney hops, hints of grass and dashes of citrusy hops. Feel is creamy, medium-full bodied, medium carbonation. A hybrid style that I have not tried before; pretty nicely put together overall.

Poured from a recent can into Carton Teku glass
A: Hazy Orange with a thick creamy finger of head. Lots of lacing.
S: Sweet fruit apricot pineapple lime
T: Pineapple, orange, lime, pine and citrus rind. Not as sweet as the nose. Hints of vanilla.
MF: Smooth, flavors longer. 8.6% is non existent.
O: the hoppy imperial part far outweighs the cream ale part. This beer is really suberp.
