Imperial Cream Ale with Coffee, Cherry, & Almond

Kaffee und Kuchen is a continuation of the Regular Coffee game. Our golden imperial coffee cream ale has been finished with sweet cherries and marzipan. Much like Regular Coffee looks to evoke an amusing version of the acidic bitter coffee curbed by milk and sugar that starts a day in a paper cup, Kaffee und Kuchen plays to contemplative cakes and coffee on a continental vacation; nutrition for pondering moral and natural existence in a town square lit by bright, flat, northern sun. Drink Kaffee und Kuchen, slow down, and value theory.

A: Very nice deep copper/gold almost whiskey color with mild head and loads of lacing.
N: Wow, this has loads of coffee, nuts, chocolate/vanilla.
T: Very nice coffee up front with a nutty mix, very light chocolate/vanilla and picking up that cherry on the finish, very good.
M: Medium
O: What a fantastic beer, this is just a great one. Flavors are top notch, the blend is perfect, and the cherry finish is so unique, one of the best I had.

Can't quite remember where or when I obtained this beer but it was via a trade as I haven't been to Carton in quite some time. I loved their other coffee beers and this was just as good as those as it was full of sweetness and cream that drew me in from the get-go. While I've soured a bit on Carton in recent years, it's a beer like this that reminded me of how I fell in love with their offerings in the first place!

This looked like an Octoberfest as I poured it out as it had a nice, bright caramel hue to it with plenty of bubbles and a fairly decent head. Splotchy lacing was left behind although there weren't any discernible rings to be seen in it. Lots of coffee, Bundt cake, milk, and creamy sweetness in the nose as the taste was full of all of those notes, as well. Smooth, sweet, and slick, this was the only American Cream Ale that I've ever had that would also serve as a breakfast *and* a dessert beer. The marzipan and an underlying feel of powdered sugar took hold as this warmed up, as I was finishing this off as they left me wanting more, like any good pastry should...

Sure, there was quite a bit of booze here as but this felt so much lighter than the posted ABV would have led me to believe, as that was what amazed me about this beer. I've never had anything like this and it's a beer like this that has me pushing to see what else is out there that I haven't ever experienced before. Yes, I wish that Carton would get their act together since it's something like this that reminds me of what they're capable of putting together. Can't wait to give this another go!

Pours yellowish. Foamy, short, white head that Fades fast.

Smells Coffee, caramel, vanilla, light nut and light cherry.

Taste like the base beer with the flavor of Sweet malts, cream soda, coffee and vanilla with added cherry and nuttiness. Finishes semi-sweet with a coffee linger. Lighter body and fizzy medium carbonation.

Who knew that the little cream ale that could had this in them. As the Carbon brewers take their coffee cream ale to imperial heights, they now round it off with cherries and almond for a taste of German chocolate cake.

Honey amber in color and crowned with a gently whipped cream cap, Kaffee Und Kuchen hits the nose with a blast of caramel and coffee. As cherries and marzipan join in the scent, its taste is rich to taste, layering the tongue with caramel, cereal and an overall candied almond flavor.

Once the coffee flavors roll into the fray, a more robust taste goes stout with coffee, cocoa and peppery spice. Sweetness links up with vanilla and marzipan softness for a balance against the roast and alcohol spice. A spicy bitterness catches up the the taste late with a amaretto laced latte character.

Full bodied and hedging on cloying, the spice, coffee and cherry tartness offsets the sweetness that lingers long and luxuriously on the finish. Its a complicated recipe that executed well, but this beer ain't for the faint of heart.

L - aw yis. Latest in the regular coffee series. Just spent some time in Germany doing exactly this. Pours a fossilized amber with minimal head. Ring of ghostly white lacing.

S - sweet white bread and coffee. Nutty cherries and other dark berries. Gotta say, the description is spot on. Almonds.

T - lactose sugar sweetens the piss out of this toasty almond milk-drenched, caramel-drizzled, cinnamon bun-accompanied slice of Sunday morning heaven. Not really much else to say. Got damn.

F - light, yet velvet viscosity per RG usual. Slight booze burn, but it's more a spice than anything.

O - beautifully reminiscent of crisp European mornings and fuckin' church bells blasting your ass off. A bit tamer than other Regular Coffee offerings, but its gentle, supple character makes it a dangerous digestif.

Carton Coffee Cream Ale tasting.

Impressed overall at all 5 of these beers; didn't eralize they were 12%. The ABV is well masked.

#1 St. Kitts Coffee
Awesome Cocnut Flavor. Rum is sweet and smooth. Awesome beer. Heavy and light at the same time.
#2 Regukar Coffee
The standard. Coffee and lactose are a natural match in this. Very SMooth. This one also feels fuller than the others.
#3 Irish Coffee
Surprise here. Minty and spicy. The mint actually works pretty well in this unlike many other mint beer disasters I've had. Nutmeg is also apparent and gives a kick to the coffe flavors.
#4 Kaffee und Kuchen
Cherry is a downer, but the almond keeps it at bay.
#5 Cafe Y Churro
Disappointed in this since it was rated so high. Felt like it needs mroe of the vanilla and cinnamon.

Overall these were a great experience. Would love to get some of the St. Kitts in the summer.

Nothing nihilistic about this Kuchen. Not for nut allergens. At the brewer.
a) Even more than with regular coffee, the clear brew rises not much head which fizzles under the acidic adds of cherries and almond. But nice color.
s) Mild notes of almond and cherry amongs the faint deli coffee brace. Would expect more espresso or strong coffee at a café .
t) I get the cake, but not ever being a fan of cake as compared with say mustard on white brots it tastes novel, sweet, and appropriate for small slice. That said, creative, tight, and well-executed. Just too sweet and alcoholic for more than a small glass at the end of an evening.
f) Mouth pleaser, in a mid-weight, creamy, liquore like treat. Never cloying, tho still too sweet for me.
o) Slow down and meditate over this, talk about it, savor and compare notes, and try the whole reg coffee series.

This one pours a slightly hazy light yellow, with a small foamy head, and not much lacing.

This smells like sweet cherry, bready malt, caramel, creamy coffee, almonds, and lactose.

These beers are always so fun. The cherry and almonds are a natural complement to the base beer, with the caramel/butterscotch/vanilla of the base cream ale and the creamy, slightly acidic, and lactose-heavy flavor of the coffee playing really well with the lightly sweet cherry, and the creamy sweet nuttiness.

This is medium bodied, with a surprising level of drinkability. There's a normal level of carbonation.

These Regular Coffee variants should be tried by everyone- they are some of the tastiest and most inventive beers out there.
