In a world of imperial this, smoothie that and all-things-hazy, the brewing group of Carton, Barrier, Other Half and Interboro raise the bar of IPA without changing the style in order to garner attention. With the help of Citra, Columbus, Idaho and Cashmere hops, greatness in hops can still be achieved the old fashion way.

Pale amber and richer gold through the center, Raise comes with a rich and frothy crown. Pleasantly pungent with a tropical, citrus and herbal perfume, the beer leaps right out with notions of honey, graham cracker and toasted angel food cake with a quick splash on the tongue.

Then the hops open up on the middle palate and shed a breadth of mango, orange and pineapple character early on. Hints of white wine, green berry and fragrant herbs come next, with the bitterness of freshly shaven pine, green tea, sassafras, peppercorn and chives rounding out the late palate.

Medium bodied and full flavored, the beer has a sense of seeming like a less spicy imperial IPA in balance but ripe and juicy with hop aroma and taste. A quick strike of gin adds a spice on the finish while the ale trails long and lean with the sensation of citrus peel and pine resins.

Got in a BIF from MacMalt. 16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 2/28/2018. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/zest, green pepper, pine, wheat, white bread dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/zest, green pepper, pine, wheat, white bread dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/zest, green pepper, pine, wheat, white bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7.1%. Overall this is an awesome IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestely bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Outstanding balanced juicy/dank hop complexity; nice pale/wheat malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness. A really enjoyable offering. Loved the hop profile.

Thrilled to be 1st full review of Raise. Unusual and off the usual path DIPA. Bought at the brewer in 07716.
No freshness date, but obviously just off the canning line. (Dont let the 4 pack jostle in the foot wells as one may spring a leak.)
a) Shards of lace sail above a lasting white head that caps a clouded apricot body.
s) Assertive hops, hempy, sharp, grass, pine - less fruit.
t) Sharp, astringent, the way I like 'em. Hemp, grass, sharply bitter, but balanced with an intense marmalade caramel malt base.
f) Chewy, minerally - that Atlantic Highlands well water! Finishes clean and scrubbing, but with an almost mouthwash scouring of your palate.

Would like to see more collaborations among Carton, Barrier , Other Half, and Interboro.

Hops: Columbus, Citra, Idaho 7, and Cashmere.

Pours a deep orange, a little hazy. Billowy white foam head that sticks around a while. Aroma it citrus and tropical fruits; mango, honeydew, orange, lemon. Taste is citrus: grapefruit, lemon, middle has a nice melon flavor that I have never experienced, some grassiness and pine in there as well, gentle bitterness on the finish. Carbonation is great - makes the beer feel creamy. Overall this is a good DIPA, but like many Carton IPA's, you will find it is very similar to their flagship 077XX (which is great)

Canned 2/28/2018 and reviewed one week later. Poured into Carton IPA glass. It pours a hazy, honey-orange color with nearly a finger of creamy, milk-white head and lacing. It features a fragrant nose of melon, tangerine, lemon peel, and light floral hops. The taste is very fruity up front with grapefruit, lemon, and sweet melon, pine needles, and a hint of wheat. The blend of Citra, Columbus, Idaho 7, and Cashmere hops is delicate and very flavorful. The bitter bite doesn't appear until the after taste. This ale is fairly creamy with moderate, pleasant carbonation, and a punchy 7.1 ABV that gives it substance. Overall, this is an outstanding DIPA with big, bold fruit flavors and tasty blend of hops. It's a great collaboration by four of the top brewers in the metro NYC area. I love the fact that Carton, Other Half, Barrier, and Interboro and work so well together. I'm looking forward to more beers from "telier."
