Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Like all things truly Jersey, 077XX makes the most in balancing through its accentuation of extremes. Inspired by the west coast IPAs we love, we added a thump of hops to a dynamic malt profile and chose a yeast to drive these two further than they wanted to go. Throw our water into this mix and you will find dank green resinous hops popping over orange, mango and papaya aromas, with just enough sweetness of body to make the long finish a pleasure to have around. Drink 0’Dub when your night matters.

From a coworker. 16oz. can into a Surly teku.

Nose is citrus, pine and fresh grass with a dank, pulpy hop bitterness. Full and bright at the same time. Beer opens grapefruit, grass and bark. A very clean, astringent bitterness. Some light malty notes in the background but this one is clearly on the hoppy side. Bone dry and resiny sticky aftertaste. Pretty tasty. Body is light to medium with ample carbonation. Aggressive on the palate and quenching going down with a dry, sticky finish.

Well crafted and a welcome departure from the super juicy and malt and fruit forward NE IPAs that have been so popular recently.

Canned 4/7/16; drank 4/29/16 @ Locked Whispers.

Clear yellow appearance.

Minimal off-white head; minimal lace.

Tangerine, honey & spring water notes in the nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

Tangerine & tart pineapple flavors up front; spring water notes on the finish. Simple but effervescent; pleasantly citrus forward. I'd have another...

Pours completely clear - orange in color. Thin white head dissipates steadily leaving no lacing or residual head behind.

Smell has notes of lemon, orange, floral hops and some earthy grass. Pretty strong dank notes come through as the beer warms.

Taste is a nice blend of orange, lemon, dank weed, bitter dried grass and a flowery flavor. Its remarkably flavorful yet very light. Touch of mango sweetness comes through. Finish is dry grass with some lingering bitterness.

Feel is crisp carbonation, smooth and incredibly light and drinkable. Hides the ABV way too well and its dangerous.

Overall this is a very nicely crafted IIPA. Impressively light and drinkable yet incredibly flavorful.

A: crystal clear; medium gold in color; 1 finger ivory head that receded to a thin collar; very nice lacing;

S: very nice aromatics; pineapple and grapefruit; a hint of floral;

T: follows the nose, but doesn't last long - flavor disappears almost immediately after the beer leaves your tongue; almost no bitterness;

M: medium bodied; low to moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: very easy drinking; my only significant complaint is that the flavor goes away too quickly;

Thanks to SammyJaxxx for this one, from NBS BIF#4. 16oz can, dated 10/13/16, into 10oz goblet. Poured a medium cloudy straw-gold color with less than 1/2 inch of white head that had moderate retention and lacing.

The aroma featured a gentle base grain and earthy, almost musty, hops. It wasn't the bright, bold scent I was expecting. The flavors popped a bit better, but it still didn't have the blast I anticipated. Maybe that's on me for having unrealistic expectations? Even reading the side of the can, I still wasn't clear which way the brewers intended for this brew to go. Is it a malt driven "English", "Old School East Coast", or "New School Northeast" style of IPA? The only thing I figured out was that this wasn't a "West Coast" bitter IPA.

The body was medium, and had a crisp, dry finish. Drinkability was good, I enjoyed my can, and I could see this beer being in my regular rotation, were it locally available. Overall, a very nice, solid, enjoyable brew. One that's worth your time if you see it, and, if you're doing a trade (or BIF) anyway, go ahead and ask for a couple.
