Style: Milk / Sweet Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The key to a sessionable beer is the way it evolves over time well spent. Here we took an extremely dark malt bill and dulled its edges with the addition of lactose and nitro conditioning, then we wafted black currant notes of Bullion hops through the middle. Nuanced to keep it an interesting part of a gathering while neither dominating nor being inconsequential to banter. Drink Carton Of Milk because it does a session good.

Not retired as I just had this on tap at the brewery yesterday.

Appearance- Just another sexy Nitro Stout. I will never not like how these beers look. Pitch black with a creamy tan head that lasts longer than the beer does. Some nice lacing as well.

The aroma has lots of coffee and chocolate. Not much else going on but it's very pleasant.

The taste follows the nose. Roasted coffee and sweet milk chocolate, as well as just a touch of grainy malt.

Feel is medium-light bodied. Very smooth though slightly watery.

Overall, a very good offering from Carton. Very easy-drinking stout.

First pour from a growler filled at the brewery.

Pours pitch black with two fingers of pillowy mocha foam. Aroma is dark roast malt, bitter chocolate, with a hint of sweetness. First sip is full of bitter roast coffee flavors, with just a kiss of lactose sweetness on the back end. Finishes thin with a long lingering roast bitterness.

This drinks nicer once your palate adjust itself to the bitterness. Easy to quaff, but I would prefer this if it were a touch sweeter and maybe a touch less bitter.

On tap @ Chicago Uno's

Look - A nice black color w/ a nice two finger khaki head
Smell - Roasted malts, coffee, some sweetness, hints of chocolate
Taste - Mostly just roasted malts, some coffee, very slight chocolate, sweet creamy type lactose notes

Overall - Not a whole lot going on with this one but for a 4% milk stout......I liked it a lot.

On tap at the Lark in E. Northport, pours pitch black color with a creamy 2 finger tan head that was thick and didn't budge, dissipating very slowly and leaving good foamy lacing and rings as it went down.

Smells of roasted malt, cocoa powder, charred wood, coffee grinds, light vanilla, peat moss, char and more burnt chocolate malts. Not sweet at all, this brew is full of charred malts, chocolate and roasted grains.

Tastes like it smells, with roasted malt, cocoa powder, toffee, charred wood, coffee grinds, light vanilla, caramel, peat moss, smoke and burnt chocolate malts. Bitterness is present, but the sweetness mellows it out with milky qualities that make this very smooth and easy to drink.
