Notes / Commercial Description:
Sandy tore through in October 2012 and changed many facets of life in our neighborhood. At our brewery, she knocked out all power and controls for eight days. Upon returning to power, we came back to an experimental stout in the Tippy we had intended to sour for two days but which Sandy left wild for ten. A high point of our second year was finishing the beer Sandy made and putting it to some good as Sour Sandy which helped raise money for some displaced friends from the craft beer community. To commemorate our second year, we re-worked the brewing process and took a step in fermenter pre-boil. In this step we let it go wild for two days and then slowly brought it down to 50 degrees while the Lacto and Pedio did their job for eight more days, recreating the median brewery temperature during the eight days that Sandy incapacitated the brewery's controls. The resulting wild stout, Something Like Sandy, is our Second Anniversary offering and will benefit New Jersey Sandy Relief Fund. Drink Something Like Sandy because a sour stout out of a catastrophe is essentially our lemonade from lemons.

On tap in a stemmed tulip.

A- Dark brown color, minimal thin head. Lots of spotty lacing and visible carbonation in the dark brew.

S- Sour yet beer-like. Vanilla, some dark malt.

T- Sour light fruits mixed with stout malts; coffee, chocolate.

M- Very dry. Tart, sour. Beer-like. Very smooth.

O- Better than it looks.

A - dark black with thin white head, almost no laces
S - coffee, chocolate, fruit, slight smoke
T- initial coffee stout smoothness, followed by tart & sour fruit, tart
M - sour stout? confusing - smooth and light-medium body, but jarring contrast
O - A good idea a bit unbalanced, like a coffee stout with an uppercut of sour apple, interesting, but only once

Served in a 16 oz pint glass at the Pourhouse, Westmont, NJ

American wild ale stout with a sour twist. This is a good beer if your a sour, dark beer fan. Pours a nice head with an interesting aroma. The base beer is good with chocolate and malts but the sour really takes the show. It's kinda like Tart of Darkness with a Carton Brewing twist. This beer is worth seeking out.

Bottom Line: Another Carton Brewing gem!
