On draft.

Mostly clear light orange.

White head; thick lace.

Marijuana & coffee bean nose; plus a stinky sock?! Intense!

Thin mouthfeel.

Pretty bitter but easy to drink; not as intense in flavor as in smell, probably for the better.

Really missin' some hop love from the Against the Grain Brewery. But this year's return of Citra Ass Down takes on a spunky face lift. An uptick in alcohol and a fully saturated citrus flavor from fresh harvest Citra and Mosaic varieties.

Its standard IPA appearance is hazy gold with a cast of light amber or copper layered upon. Its strong haze is a testament to its unfiltered character that leaves all the hoppy goodness in tact. Its creamy, just off of white foam cap builds atop the beer and holds firm through its duration. With concentric lacing firmly attached, the ale simply looks like a well built IPA.

A burst of tropical and citrus aromas fill the nose with vibrant fruit. Red grapefruit, tangerine, mango, apricot, and even a tinge of white grape sneaks into the aromatic profile. With just enough malt character to give the hop fruitiness and plumper and riper sense, any perceived sweetness comes across like mild honey.

And that honey-dipped citrus taste continues on the palate. Short in its initial sweetness, the beers flavor soon casts any malt balance to the side in order to favor hops heading into middle palate and outlasting its finish. That juicy and citrusy upstart reminds me of fresh-squeezed orange juice and Hawaiian Punch. But the beer quickly turns to dryness and deeply resinous bitterness in finish and highlights a light wine, chive, grassy-catty echos and an oddly compelling sassafras note.

And that unfiltered character stems into the beer's mouthfeel where a creamy and bready texture awaits. Both malty and dry at the same time gives the beer structure and body without interfering with hop dryness, alcohol warmth or is "snappy" closure. Only the mild chlorophyll-type astringency gives the beer a spicy bite.

Citra Wet Ass Down comes at'cha with a plethora of new-wave hop character from nose to finish. It continues to offer the senses a new taste and scent to explore with each visit to the glass. ...and it does so with the most fresh and vibrant character possible. Well done AtG!
