Consumed on tap at The Nachbar in Germantown, Louisville, KY. Served in a standard handled mug.
A: As would be expected from a German style; Amber/Orange, slightly hazy. Good, thin off-white head that dissipates rather quickly, leaving little lacing as you go.
S: A rich bouquet of German spring-ness! Light & citrusey, crisp well carbonated. Light grapefruit with some mild flowery musks on top. Every so slight hint of caramel malt scent as well. Very pleasant to smell.
T: Follows the nose well; light & crisp with nice citrus tang & flowery, Earthy notes that compliment the grapefruit well. Some banana peel, & a little bubblegum on warning. Good malt backbone of caramel & a little rye, not much, but enough to make it all the more interesting.
M: Well-carbonated, nicely done with crispness & soda-like tang. Could be a bit thicker, but not being an imperial, it's nice & deep. The hop malt presence are apparent the mouth along with the nose & palate.
O: A rather nondescript style, this helles is lively, not particularly "out there" enough, perhaps for the hop-heads & beer adventurous, but sitting here in a Germantown pub, it is as nice as a warm, early spring night among this tundra of winter.
