Notes:
BBA Smoked Imperial Stout w/ Coffee. Our friends at Dark Matter Coffee in Chicago were kind enough to impart us with some green coffee beans which we smoked with used Bo and Luke bourbon barrel staves. The green coffee beans were then fermented in a used bourbon barrel, roasted, and used in this BBA smoked imperial stout recipe! Coffee Inception!

There is such a thing as too much, even of a good thing. I fear this beer is a bit of that.
They took a complex smoked barrel aged stout, and added to it an array of smoked and barrel aged coffee beans.
The result is a deep mahogany liquid with a beautiful, towering mocha head. That radiates the aromas of fresh dark roasted beans with very little barrel, booze, or smoke. Dark fruits, chocolate, coffee.
The flavor though, while bringing forward some of the dark berry notes you can find in coffee along with the chocolate and mildly boozy nature of the base beer, the flavor is ultimately a little one note on the coffee front.
The mouthfeel is exceptional, super smooth and pleasant.
Overall this feels like a waste of good coffee and a great base beer to me. The coffee ends up combating and sort of neutralizing the base beer and the sum is less than it's parts.
Still an enjoyable beer but the base beer remains superior to any of the variants I have tried
