Collaboration with Mikkeller

A collaboration beer between Mikkeller and Against the Grain Brewery. Simply a blood orange pilsner brewed with German pilsner and Munich malts. Hopped with American citra, columbus, amarillo and Czech Saaz and fermented with Danish lager yeast. Finally, the zest and juice from blood oranges are added. The result is a nice easy drinking lager that exhibits a tart and citrusy aroma and flavor.

Canned February 2016;drank 3/2/16 @ the Yarchives.

See-through orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a HUGE eggshell head; frothy lace.

Blood orange & sweet corn notes in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Blood orange flavor up front; dry wheat & roasted corn notes on the finish.

A nice lager, I suppose, but this isn't good enough to convert any non-believers.

Purchased for about 4 bucks for the pounder. Thought it was a lager but it's a pilsner which I kind of hate the style. Hopefully the fruit flavor makes it good.
A - Somewhat hazy orange tint beer with a massive inch plus of froth atop.
S - Aroma is not bursting with blood orange more citrus and mild sweet malts. Kind of lackluster.
T - Like orange soda water with no depth just some orange zest and a touch of malt. Not even any sourness you would expect. Boring.
M - Light and fizzy easy to crush.
Disappointment all around these guys make some lackluster beer pretty much everything I tried even bourbon barrel aged beers have been less than stellar reviews but this one takes the cake. Pass!

Pours an almost clear orange tinted amber yellow with a thick white head. The aroma is slightly hoppy with a good amount of citrus. Flavor is crackers and oranges. Great crisp mouthfeel, I can see slamming a couple of these while mowing the lawn. Nice beer.

16 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 6/16/2017. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of juicy/lightly tart blood oranges, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passionfruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of blood oranges/zest, citrus/fruity/earthy hops, and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big juicy/lightly tart blood oranges, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passionfruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine/citrus peel/grassy/spicy bitterness and blood orange tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of juicy/tart blood oranges, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passionfruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of blood oranges/zest, citrus/fruity/earthy hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/tartness balance; and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/tartness. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/tangy/acidic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is a very good fruited Czech pilsner style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of blood oranges/zest, citrus/fruity/earthy hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink, with the mildly tart/bitter/drying finish. Hits the Czech pilsner base style really well; with the addition of some Citrus/fruity American hops along with the blood orange/zest. A very enjoyable and unique offering.
