the names of these beers are cheeky, but its also sort of a gimmick, and its hard to take them seriously, and only they must take themselves seriously with prices like their beers cost in the market, but i had this one on tap, and i am awfully glad i did, its delicious, maybe even the best ive had from these guys, close to it anyways. ever so slightly hazy in the glass, still really bright, yellow golden, pale, with a tall head, a couple of inches in a tulip, and its comprised of a million little bubbles that dont seem to pop. a nose far different than most other tripels. instead of being yeast driven, its all grain here. soft and subtle compared to others, it has very little sweetness in the nose too, unconventional but it answers my usual criticisms of the style right up front. the yeast comes in about the middle of the taste after the summery wheaty base establishes itself. its white pepper and sage and peach and something bitter like watermelon rind, it doesnt seem like hops, but it does balance this expertly. carbonated like champagne, insanely dry for the style, and a lot lighter in both body and booze than some of its belgian counterparts. i love what makes this different, its deviations make it special. despite the name, its serious beer.

"Jacque was an intrepid boy. He was always exploring. One day he fell into a Trappe. A dirty trappe. A dirty Jacque’s Trappe.

This may be as close to elegant as you’re ever going to get out of us. This Belgian Trippel was made with a huge load of pilsener malt and a generous helping of candi sugar fermented thoroughly by a Belgian Trappist yeast strain. The result is a crisp, clean flavor with just enough candy sweetness to tickle the palate without being cloying and a variety of fruity flavors from the yeast. The alcoholic burn is also ever so slightly present. Post fermentation, we aged this beer on French oak to further dry the perception and to add the spicy, vanilla notes characteristic of that wood. Please, try on our Jacque’s Trappe. We cleaned it.
