My daughter talked me into going here. I reluctantly went. Glad I did! They have a great selection of beer categorized by country for the imports and by region for U.S. crafts. I was impressed with the build your own six packs. I was looking for NC crafted brews and found a variety of selections. And to my amazement, the beer was not of date.

I’ve been visiting this place for the past five years. Its my first stop when I hit the OBX as I always arrive early before my rental starts and I need to pass it on the way south.

Quality – Watch the dates of the bottles in the beer shop as they can sometimes have some age on them, but this is not always a bad thing. 4.0

Vibe – More of a wine snob vibe than beer snob vibe. Sit at the bar for the best experience as that is really about the beer. 4.0

Service – Great service for both beer and wine. Last time I visited the bartender brought me tastes of tap beers before I decided to buy some of the same beer in cans. NOTE that Trio does spin crowlers as well as fill growlers. Very satisfied with their help and service in all areas. 4.5

Selection – I believe Trio has the best and most varied selection of beers on the OBX. A great selection of North Carolina beers, good US selection, and definitely the best international selection including a Belgium, UK, and German. They have a sour section where I found some 3F (over priced, but hey!) 4.5

Food – Food is available. I have had the cheese plates and other small snacks at the bar, which were very tasty. 4.0

Real nice place that holds more than thought.

The selection here for domestic and even foreign, is quite good but it's a little small. However, while small it does contain an excellent selection and focus on local brews. Staff are very helpful and can answer any questions. Love the cheese counter here.

There are also some small gems in here if you look around closely, as I managed to score some decent obscure bottles as well.

Very worthy stop if in the area.

This is a very high quality shop, mostly wine but excellent beer selection. Prices are a bit high, but seem reasonable for the area. Definitely worth the stop to pick up something interesting you won't find anywhere else in the area

Great cheese selection and I also found a better selection of the beer I was looking for opposed to Chip's down the road. Very friendly staff and a great place to have a beer on tap from their nice selection.

Came here to restock while on a weekend trip in Kitty Hawk. The place is nicely decorated and has a great selection of beer in the back categorized by country for the imports and by region for the domestic and local stuff. The people were really friendly. I was greeted and asked if I needed help by 3 different workers as I progressed through the shop. I didn't have any food so I can't comment on that but a really solid bottle shop in the area.

The owner is amazing. After I bought a quest brewing kaldi coffee stout from them it exploded in my car causing 500 worth of damage. The Owners Of Quest Brewing Ignored my Emails and calls so I told the owner of trio even know I know it wasn't his fault in anyway and he to had cans explode on the shelf he graciously bought me a beer and gave me a gift certificate. Shame on you quest. Thank you John

Good spot for a pint or three, especially if the wife/friends prefer wine. A good number of taps with a nice mix of styles/origins. The wine is on tap too by the glass and seems to be the bigger focus. Not a huge bar area, but probably one of the best places for craft pints in the outer banks area.
The bottle selection is good, but a lot of the hippy stuff has a lot of age on it. They do have quite a bit of import beer.
Well worth a stop if you are in the outer banks.

This place is well done and has something for everyone. My wife and I stopped here while visiting OXB last month.

They have live music a few nights a week and have a decent selection of beers on tap.

My wife liked that they had a pour your own wine area. She was able to go about and taste a few different local wines.

We had our drinks and were able to roam around the rest of the store and shop.

I like that they had their beers broken down by location and not style. It was nice to be able to shop for local beers that I knew I could not find in NYC.

After a few drinks we left with our hands full and a some great local bottles.

One of the two must-stops for OBX BA's (the other is Chip's - two miles down the road). Selection is good. Staff is friendly. I usually get the impression that they value wine just above beer (and that's not necessarily a bad thing as they have a great selection of both). The draft list at the bar is as extensive as you'll find on the OBX and the food ain't bad, either. Check out their glassware before you leave - they often have some great deals.

We stopped here on a cold day of our Outer Banks vacation. I read about it in a guide book and was glad I did. Wonderful atmosphere and very welcoming. They had over 20 beers on tap, more by the bottle, good representation of all styles and types. We had lunch at the bar, shared a cheese/charcuterie plate and a panini, everything was delicious. Bartender was very helpful and knowledgeable. Great place if you are into wine as well, seems they have a tasting mechanism, which we didn't try. Overall a very nice experience and I would definitely return. You can also shop for more beer and wine at the other half of the store, you can make your own 6 pack and take 10% off, which isn't too bad.

Any time I visit Kitty Hawk or the OBX, this is a must-stop for me once I reach MP 4. Being that I live in VA, they carry a few beers that we don't see up here (Great Divide, Sweetwater). I always feel welcomed and the staff is always willing to talk wine/beer. As a wine collector, they carry a great variety of higher-end wine at good prices given its location in a tourist area.

After I shop and take the stash to the car, I love going back in and sitting at the bar. They typically have a great selection on-tap and the proper stemware to accompany. They are connected to "What's on Tap" where you can check the internet to see what they have on-tap before even going in. Also the screen above the bar gives you good info on the ABV, BA/RB ratings, where its from and the style the beer is. They also have an upstairs where they hold events and have more seating, but I have yet to go up there. A very nice place to shop and relax with friends!

This is one of those places that keep me coming back. This beer/wine store plus bar is nicely laid out with two locations to sit at while enjoying your beer. If you don't feel like sitting then walk around with your beer and pick out what you want to take home.

This place offers 24 taps and has a pretty good selection that looks to be rotating well. Service was good and they are not shy to ask what you like as we'll as recommend some thing. I would recommend stopping by if in the area.

Just passing through. Stopped by thx to favorable BA and Yelp reviews. Odd feeling place with a cool bar split with retail. Good for the beer and wine crowd alike. Decent tap selection, with a good mix of locals/statewide and larger distros to include Canadian and EU offerings and a killer web page/beer board system. Bravo for that!

Usually go for locals when I'm in a new area, but was underwhelmed with them. Can't fault Trio for that, and they did have Enjoy By on as well as Old Raspy on nitro to keep me interested.

Also cool self serve type wine dispensers, and excellent cheeses.

My low score vs the average may seem off. But I score to averages, and there are many great beer bars out there skewing my personal average. This was a good one, and I'd definitely take advantage of their online beer board and would go back in a heart beat.

As much as I enjoyed Chip's in Kill Devil Hills, I thought Trio was that much better. Wider selection both in retail and on-tap, very welcoming staff, and great food (which of course Chip's doesn't do). They had Stone's Enjoy by and NB's Rampage on tap along with others, a nice variety. Definitely a must stop in the OBX.

This is one of my favorite place to grab a beer with some friends because it is classy yet fun. They have music 4 nights a week, free pool, beer and wine tastings for those trying to educate your self, and a staff that knows what they are doing. The beer selection is always balanced across the board so they feature Wits to Imperial Stouts and everything in between. The English hand crank (simulates a nitro tap, well the nitro tap simulates the hand crank but yea) is a nice treat and they have a beer or 2 on nitro tap at all time for a nice treat. The food is out of this world. They specialize in cheese and their sandwiches reflect that. I am not a wine guy but I enjoyed doing a wine tasting and happened to learn something.

You will spend some money but in return you will get to try beer on tap that you normally only get to try out of the bottle from a specialty store. Not only that but you have about 24 options of awesome beer and because they vary what is on tap there will be many different styles one can try. It is also nice that they have an upcoming tap list to show you what you can expect in the next changing of the beer guard when one kicks.

Overall- must try the food and beer ! Might be my favorite spot!

Trio Wine & Cheese Bar: newly opened in August 2011 at mile post 4 in Kitty Hawk. Sister store of Native Vine Wine & Cheese.

Stopped by on our last night of Outer Banks vacation. Heard about this place from a local.

Atmosphere: front entrance leads you to wine & beer take out. Side/back entrance leads to bar area. Large bar, seats maybe 12-15 at bar with 5 or so high tops. Nice and comfortable looking, could spend some time here. Also, there is an upstairs bar that was not opened just yet that also has a pool table with lounging chairs. Very nice layout.

Quality/Selection: 24 taps with PBR and Blue Moon as the Macro exceptions. Blurb on menu that hand pump will be coming soon. Nice selection, not heavy on any particular style or brewery plus many local options like Mother Earth, St Georges, Weeping Radish along with the likes of Left Hand and North Coast Brewing. Quality seemed fine, though I noticed some short pours including ours. Not cool and a ding on service.

Beer Take Out: did have a nice take selection of beer though not quite up to the selection of Chips but I could definitely see that changing with the amount of space they have there.

Food: did not try but seems like a very limited menu consisting of sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie plates. Would definitely want to try when we come back.

Overall: very nice addition to Outer Banks and a welcome sight since tap options are limited on the island. Also, really caters to the wine crowd with some very good selections and tastings of wine. Can't wait to come back next year.
