this is great beer, my favorite i have had from these guys so far, something really different. its a darker bock beer, reddish to brown even in the color with fine clarity and over an inch of tan airy head that leaves spider web lace on the edges of my globe. heavy smoke to this, very autumnal right away, it takes me to a chilly november evening, and i love that. a mix of smoked malts maybe, not as acrid as the cherrywood can be, and not as heavy as the other german rauch types get, so maybe they have sourced an original grain, something unfamiliar to me. there is campfire on the aroma, but i get the sweet malt of the marzen type base first, octoberfest beer on steroids, sweet and hearty, with notes of oak and maple and brown sugar all in there. i love the depth here, the flavor is malt driven for sure, sweet like a marzen just bigger, and then with the smoke its quite intense, low and slow, but lots of it, but not meaty like some of these can be, definitely not as bitter as i am used to, and almost crisp in the finish, german lager yeast abounds. great carbonation, a squarely medium body with a little stick to the ribs kind of heft to it, and a wonderful flavor profile that lingers long on the tongue. smooth and incredibly satisfying, it has me wishing fall would hurry up and get here already. thanks to drlovemd87 for hooking me up with this beer i might never have gotten to try otherwise. what a beauty! one of my favorite smoked beers in ages!

The label states "smoked Double Bock"...

A: Pours warm copper with a compact and tall beige head. Rich lacings.

S: Sweet malt, bready. Some bitter hops. But smoke is what this beer is all about.

T: Smoke, and smoked meat - like ham. Sweet malt, very bready. A bit fruity, apples and oranges. Bitter hops - but this is very smoky. Some balanced vanilla notes as well.

M: Nice full body, very smooth. Low carbonation and a short, but lovley sweet and smoky aftertaste.

O: I love smoked Doppelbocks (eventhough this is my first)!
