Not the best saison in the world. Not the worst. A bit hoppy for my flavor (I am not a fan of hoppy saisons) with a rough malt aftertaste. There is supposed to be a bit of grapefruit in here, but it's hard to find it. It's overpowered by the hops. They say here this beer is retired, but I still see it around the LA area seasonally.

Pours a finger and half of head on a clear golden body.
The aroma is airy grapefruit and candy.
The taste is tart grapefruit right at the start with a mellower middle and a mild sweet finish.
The texture is crisp.
It's enjoyable.

Pours super clear with 1 finger of fizzy head.

Aroma is primarily dominated by the grapefruit juice, rind, and pith. Smells more like a pale ale than a saison. Some generic citrus present as well. Very mild in regards to any spice or yeast characteristics.

Very refreshing beer. It's like a pale ale mashed up with a sessionable saison. Dominating taste is the grapefruit. Nice amount of crisp citrus. Light and bubbly mouthfeel. Slightly watery in the middle of the sip, but at an abv around 5 percent, it has a great amount of flavor. Little bit of spice and yeast flavor at the end, but mainly overshadowed by the bitter grapefruit.

Overall, not a bad beer. Nothing extraordinary, but a fun new session beer. I see it pairing well with a crab and avocado salad with a citrus vinaigrette. It gets a 75.5/100.

Rich and flavorful with a lot of malt. Distinct Saison taste with the classic fruit and yeast. Attractive golden yellow in the glass with a big pile of suds. Fizzy and mouth filling. Pleasing sweet touch. Even a whiff of the old sweaty horse, but a clean polo pony. A little scratchy at the finish. An enthusiastic brew that is yet another highly drinkable entry from Golden Road. From the pack of 12 oz cans-- yes, another Saison in cans!

[poured into a la fin du monde glass]

I: This beer is the result of a talented home brewer working together with the biggest craft brewery in LA. Made with a bid emphasis on grapefruit, calling this beer Pamplemousse (means grapefruit) seems fitting. It's currently being sold exclusively at Wholefoods Market and you can meet the creator at the Arroyo store. Get it while you can!

B: Typical of Golden Road, it's a can. Pink in appearance with the inards of a grapefruit on display with large text of the style. It's loud, but classy. One could easily mistaken it for a can of soda.

A: A hazy apricot body with a big loose(but tight mid) white head, fast dissipation, and decent lacing.

S: Big Grapefruit citrus and lemon zest upfront and throughout.

T: Tart grapefruit that is on the cusp of turning sour, sweet malt, lemon zest/spices, slight hop bitterness that lingers. Everything complements each other.

M: light/medium body, crisp/slick finish, moderate carbonation, and little apparent alcohol.

O: This is a easy drinking beer with some nice complexity. Great balance in terms of taste and mouth, nice aroma, and good appearance. The most enjoyable aspect is the behavior of the grapefruit/tart element that keeps my tongue/brain to believe that it's going to go sour... but it never does. I must say that this is the most enjoyable golden road beer I've probably had. Seemingly appropriate at any time of the day, you can't go wrong with Pamplemousse! I would buy again and recommend.

picked up at local Whole Foods. Can design (pink) is interesting - taking the grapefruit meat literally.

A: Looks like a healthy Saison - nice 1-2 finger white foam that holds steady and disaptes within 60 seconds. Clear golden straw/hay hues that look very clean with average lacing.

S: citrus and yeast (I have no sense of smell - so wife gave me this data).

T: yeast bomb saison - wow. Starts with some typical saison flavors - strong citrus notes, herbal... not much spice.... and then punched in the face with a blast of heavy yeast, grapefruit, and bitterness/grass flavors of what tastes like late hop additions - does not mix well together. The after taste is similar to a gravity sample of homebrew wrought with particles of yeast and hops. There is some slight tart (grapefruit) but it is pushed to background by the prideful yeast. Alcohol is light but apparent. Mouthfeel is typical - medium carbonation and crisp.

O: I had high hopes for this beer as Saison / Farmhouse is my style (both drinking and brewing). I think the yeast / grapefruit combo just did not work as yeast & grapefruit flavors overpowered everything in this beer. The homebrew aspect shined through.

Canned 6/12/14.

Pours a murky light yellow with a foamy off-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, grapefruit, grapefruit juice, spice, and yeast aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, grapefruit juice, spice, and yeast flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid grapefruit characteristics all around.
