With a dark mahogany ruby color, the beer is a medley of subtle caramel, dark toffee and slight brandy as it rides with a great concoction of ginger, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon and other warm spices that form the basis of the flavor. Firm gingerbread, nutmeg and clove makes up the aroma, with an aftertaste of strong, warm spiced ginger lingering nicely at the back of the palette. The mouthfeel is ideal and fits well with the gingerbread stout category. This is an ideal winter brew from this brewery. Other recommended beers for the wintertime is the Coconut Molasses Brown Ale from Duck Foot Brewing Company and the Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale from New Belgium Brewing. In terms of stouts, I recommend the Vanilla Bean Stout from Avery Brewing, the Eugene Porter from Revolution Brewing, the Double Nut Brown from Mammoth Brewing, the Old Goat’s Oatmeal Stout from San Marcos Brewing Company and the Stockyard Stout from Trader Joe’s.

Poured from a tall boy into a shaker pint, the beer is a brownish-black coloring, thin on the pour, with a wispy, light tan head. Aromas of gingerbread, cinnamon, sugary highlights, subtle vanilla, and hints of coffee. Flavors are heavily roasted, with deep coffee backbone flavors overpowering the ginger spice, sweet vanilla and molasses notes, and subtle spice blends of cinnamon and nutmeg. Thin, slick bodied, with a ginger, vanilla, and coffee heavy aftertaste. The finish is slick, light, and crisp. Good flavors, but the lack of balance and the thin feel seemed out of place for me.

On tap at the Pub at Golden Road (Atwater Village), poured in a flight glass. Deep, moderately dark brown with frothy off white head. Big gingerbread spice, especially on the nose. Stout flavor doesn't hold up to the spice, falling more towards cola and cocktail bitters than roasted malt. Relatively light body and moderate carbonation. Overall a bit unbalanced and thin.

16 oz can with a 28 Sept. 2016 date stamp, consumed on 26 Dec. 2016.

Pours essentially opaque with fine ruby highlights when held to the light. Moderate size tan head with decent retention and some lacing.
The aroma is ginger and gingerbread, and slightly medicinal. The flavor is a bit more balanced but still enough ginger to dominate, but not mask, the malts and produce a mild effect (bite) on the mouthfeel. Well hidden ABV.

Overall: recommended only if you like gingerbread.

I will start by saying that my brother lasted about 3 drinks and myself 4 before pouring this out.

It was a thin, brownish black with little to no head.

It smelled like metal and ginger and nothing else bit maybe plastic.

Not surprisingly, it tasted the same. Lots of ginger. Like if you were trying to add some to a pot and accidentally spilled half of the container. Also a cola like flavor amongst the aluminum.

Very thin bodied. A little bit of crisp/fizzy carbonation. Watery feel.

I would hope that this was infected, but there is no way on even a good day that it is a double/imperial stout either. One of the worst 3 beera I have rated since joining Ba

Pours a black color. One inch head of an off-tan color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of strong ginger, sweet malt, alcohol, hint of caramel malt, and cinnamon. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong ginger, sweet malt, alcohol, hint of roasted malt, slight caramel malt, wheat, and slight cinnamon. Overall, good appearance, mostly spices, sharp, but decent otherwise.

This is probably only the second or third beer I've poured down the drain this year. I was expecting a sweet seasonal stout, but this was just atrocious. It poured thin and tasted like Coke mixed with a very mediocre stout. I'm really, really confused as to why people like this beer. Did I just get a bad can? Or is this a flavor profile that people are really liking?

PKG ON 9/30/2016.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, blackish body with ruby-tinted edges and capped with a 3/4-inch head of rapidly deflating beige foam.

Smell: Ginger, cinnamon and a licorice-tinged star anise with a bit of washed coffee and roast.

Taste: Initial pop of ginger powder, anise and cinnamon with cola, low-grade chocolate. Alright, I've got the spiced gingerbread taste, which holds through the finish, but it's on top of a very bare, rather hollow stout, both in body and character.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-low carbonation. Nearingly watery.

Overall: Again, it suffers to much from a very underwhelming, lacking base beer.

From can, pours a very dark brown near black colour with some floaties. The head is a tan colour that is only a film.
Aroma well ginger, gingerbread cookies, spices.
Taste wow just what the name suggests. If you like gingerbread you'll love it, well made.
