Very Good
Wolf PupWolf Pup
Notes: Hoppy and refreshing, Wolf Pup is our riff on a Session IPA. Highly drinkable with a wildly aromatic tropical and citrus character, it’s the perfect companion to keep on sippin’ for those long, sunny days.

My local shop ran out of Founder's All Day IPA. The marketing on the box promised a session IPA at 4.5%abv - sounds like a Founder's, no? It's not. There was minimal grapefruit notes, and little of the hoppiness expected from a decent IPA. The low abv makes it OK as a session beer, but it's not a go-to.
It's hazy, which is OK I guess (not a fan). Every can in the 15 pack opened with an overflow - every one, even after sitting for days.
I'd pass on this, unless you like watered down Juice Bombs.

Nice grapefruit and mango aroma.
Not overly hoppy or pine flavor.
A really crisp enjoyable beer. Would be great on the back porch on a hot summer day.

Pours light hazy gold, almost wheat beer-like. An excellent foamy head rises and lingers, giving way to some good soapy lacing.

Grapefruit, orange, mango, and peach arrive first, with some floral and and faintly resiny hop aroma in the background.

The brew hits the tip of the tongue with subdued malt and honey sweetness. A variety of hop flavors wash across the palate otherwise. Grapefruit, pineapple, apricot, peach, faint herb and earth. The flavors are a bit subdued and vague.

The brew has a really nice mouthfeel, with excellent carbonation and crispness.

Overall, a tasty brew.

It's stellar from the draught. From a can, it's pretty good. Very refreshing. If you want a crushable beer without compromising on taste, look no further. Love the frothy white head and hazy complexion.

From the big can, it pours a lightly hazy amber with a modest bubbly head. The soon reduces to a nice ring. In the nose, a nice bit of citrus. The mouth gets the same, with a nice light malt base.

Can into pint glass. Pours a reasonably clear amber with a small off-white head. Initial impression is a a fairly bitter West Coast-ish IPA, with citrus hops and an offsetting mild sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium thin. Finish is bitte and astringent. Not bad for a session IPA, but I like a little more substance. Meh.

This is a beer I thought I reviewed from the only LA Brewer I have heard of. This one and "Weeds" are everywhere on the East coast. Nose is pleasant with a little lemon and medicinal hops and a touch of honey and black pepper.

Light in texture and similar citrus and light malt backbone with a little bit of a gritty aftertaste. This isn't great but fulfills the qualitries I look for in a session: flavor, light in body, poundable.

I am not a big fan of session IPA's; in my opinion, you're either an IPA or you're not. Give me at least 7.0% ABV or give me death. But Golden Road's Wolf Pup is a cut above, in my view. A candied sort of nose, but I got past that. The look is rich but not too hazy, reminiscent of some of my preferred East Coast style IPA's. Tons of flavor coming at you, for a sessionable beer that is, and that is the hallmark of this one: the taste. I've been enjoying it via the 25 oz. big can, on special at my local package store for a ridick price of $2.00, while supplies last. A great find for late-midsummer delights.

Pretty good light AIPA. Nothing outstanding but a good candidate as a thirst quencher/session beer. Pours a hazy straw color with a smallish frothy white head. head retention is good and there are thick bands of lacing on the glass. This beer foamed up as soon as I opened the can and I lost about 20% of the beer. Aroma and taste are citrus hops, mostly grapefruit with a little balancing malt. Aroma is a bit light, taste is pleasant. Mouthfeel is somewhat light with average bitterness, good enough for a low alcohol, session beer. I wouldn't mind a pitcher of this with friends.

Appearance: Medium gold but a bit hazy. Poured with two fingers of white foam that reduced to a thin froth.

Aroma: A mild hop aroma, fruit, berry, melon. A little grassy.

Taste: To me this is the big feature with this beer. You get a nice mouthful of hops that are fruity. There are different flavors that are tropical, berries and melon. Hop bitterness is medium and lingers but it is not harsh.

Feel: Body is between light to medium and very smooth.

Overall: This is an everyday beer for me. with the lower alcohol you can have a few of these and not get plowed. Good refreshing beer tto sit and enjoy after a hot job, a good days work or to just sit back and enjoy.

Canned Feb 16, 2019
Pours a large fizzy bubbly head, 2 fingers but fades fairly quickly, then slows to good retention and light whispy lacing, hazy medium gold color

Nose has a little old hop character unfortunately not too fresh as I've only had this a couple of weeks, citrus lemon zest, grapefruit notes, mostly floral spicy herbal hops, little malt

Taste mild sweet malt, but hops dominate with medium to lighter bitterness, juicy fruits, citrus, bubblegum, little pith, touch of apricot, citrus zest, just enough malt to balance the bitterness, dry finish, lingering medium spicy citrus rind hop bitterness

Mouth is med bod, medium to lighter carb

Overall despite some obvious age it's pretty solid, good hop to malt balance, nice hop flavors and bitterness, enjoyable and something I could drink for a while which is good since this can is enormous

Golden Road Wolf Pup Session IPA. 12oz can poured into Duvel tulip. 11JUN19 printed on bottom of can so this has another couple weeks of freshness in it. Every can on the rack was slightly dented so hopefully that didn't affect the structural integrity of the can and cause leeching. Seems like a distribution or manufacturing issue.

Appearance - Big white soapy head with decent retention and inconsistent, patchy lacing with good stick. Hazy light to medium gold body. 4/5

Smell - Strong sweet honey and a blend of tropical and dark fruit. 4/5

Taste - Wet hay up front with undertones of soy sauce. 2.25/5

Mouthfeel - Round and medium bodied, but a little too astringent. 3/5

Overall - Interesting but definitely not sessionable as the name implies. 3/5

I really like session IPAs, but this one is awful. It tastes like soap. And that’s a real shame too, because it’s one of the most widely distributed session IPAs in the US.

Decent IPA but not quite true to style.
Crispy citrus hops (Cascade?&?) predominate for a nice session ale.
Possibly dry-hopped?
Decent head.
Not as warming as some other IPAs brewed with noble hops.
Ballentine IPA in the gold standard using Brewer's Gold hops if you can find it.
Wolf pub is probably better, as label states: "for long, sunny days." Not for chilly spring days here in Maine.
Not sure what Golden Road means by their "riff" on a a session IPA, a better word might be "interpretation" ?
Yet, definitely has summer BBQ potential.

There is a canned on date on the bottom. Moreover, this session IPA has classy looking can artwork. I taste some mild tropical fruit notes but not as big as I expected it to be, some bitterness on the backend but it's nothing overbearing. This is one of the better session IPAs that I have had. Cheers! B

Rather light for an IPA to be honest. Nice tasting, but not a lot of flavour. I've had session IPAs with more taste and flavour than this. Its a chick beer, if you get my drift. Not bad, but I've had better.

25 oz. (750 ml can - Freshness date of 06Feb19 stamped on bottom:

Pours hazed yellow with a pillowy white head. Lacing sticks.

The smell is of strong citrus. Light herbal spicing comes through too.

The taste is certainly hop-forward (mainly citrus - pineapple). Not raw nor aggressive. Just enough pale malt presence to keep it smooth. Refreshingly bitter finish.

Light-bodied. Bitter and smooth. With modest abv and pleasant hop aroma, this is truly a "session" IPA. Enough hop character to satiate the hop-fix. One of the better "session" IPA's out there!

Poured from can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a very lightly hazed golden color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, fading over time to leave traces of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew strongest of a tropical fruit smell with aromas of tangerine, papaya, and mango all there. Along with those aromas comes some notes of a bready and caramel smell as well.
Taste- The taste begins with a lighter tropical fruit sweetness that has a decent hit of a more crackery like malt backbone. The tropical fruit is almost entirely of a mango taste with this flavor growing slightly stronger as the taste advances, but oddly almost tasting less sweet. At the start there is also a little bit of pine and some grapefruit citrus hop as well. The pine hop remains rather constant, but the citrus gets quite a bit more pronounced and in the end one is left with a nicely hopped and somewhat drier but still nicely hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is quite light and crisp with a carbonation level that is slightly on the higher side. For the session nature of the brew the feel is prime and makes this one a very easy sipper.
Overall – I was very much impressed with this brew. For the session style, it is very heavy in flavor but maintains a great easy drinking feel. A very well crafted session IPA I must say!!

Surprising that I like this because I usually shy away from overly hoppy beers, but this is not bad, pours golden with a big frothy head that quickly dissipates, this is as bright as the sun. its smells very floral, I smell flowers, pine scents, earthy citrusy smells, its got a kitchen cleaner smell but in a good way, soapy smell as well in there, along with under-riped bananas and I think I detect pears in there and maybe some mothballs but in a good way it has a very complex smell. In the mouth its light, not cloying at all, very floral with an ultra lemony finish. The taste is less "dense" or flavorful than the smell, but still not a bad beer for an IPA

It's smooth, and delicious!!! First sip bubbles on your tongue, and then once swallowed the aftertaste is light. I had the end of a keg, and it still has packed flavor. Recommend. It doesn't have a strong smell, yet the taste has a punch to it. Hoping this beer is Nationwide!

Wolf Pup pours a lighter bronze color, with a nice long lasting head. Aroma is sweet, and malty. Flavor is also sweeter and maltier, with just the slight amount of hops. Good body and feel. Overall, a very light IPA, very sweet.

$ 4.95 (sans tax)/12 oz can ($ 0.412/oz) from Outback Steakhouse, Texarkana, TX. Reviewed 11/18/18.
“02 Aug 18” on can bottom. Stored and served at whatever temp they maintain their cooler, in a frosted 16 oz shaker.
Appearance – 4.
Body – Light yellow, slight haze, some effervescence.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), high density with some rocks, white, good retention, slooowly diminishing to an irregular three to ten mm ring and a thin complete layer. Head retraction leaves a few small, broken pieces of lacing.
Lacing – Excellent. Wide rings of tiny to medium bubbles, connected by thin columns.
First pour – Light yellow, clear.
Aroma – 4 – Pine and generic citrus – nice!
Flavor – 4 – Very refreshing citrus, tending more toward tangerine or mandarin orange rather than grapefruit. The pine from the nose is absent. No alcohol (4.5 % ABV), no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 – Thin, watery, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4 – A happy accident I even tried this since the bartender told me it’s made by Sam Adams. It isn’t, and even better, it’s a new brewery for me and a very good brew as well. Double win!
