Hoppy and refreshing, Wolf Pup is our riff on a Session IPA. Highly drinkable with a wildly aromatic tropical and citrus character, it’s the perfect companion to keep on sippin’ for those long, sunny days.

Wolf Pup pours a lighter bronze color, with a nice long lasting head. Aroma is sweet, and malty. Flavor is also sweeter and maltier, with just the slight amount of hops. Good body and feel. Overall, a very light IPA, very sweet.

$ 4.95 (sans tax)/12 oz can ($ 0.412/oz) from Outback Steakhouse, Texarkana, TX. Reviewed 11/18/18.
“02 Aug 18” on can bottom. Stored and served at whatever temp they maintain their cooler, in a frosted 16 oz shaker.
Appearance – 4.
Body – Light yellow, slight haze, some effervescence.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), high density with some rocks, white, good retention, slooowly diminishing to an irregular three to ten mm ring and a thin complete layer. Head retraction leaves a few small, broken pieces of lacing.
Lacing – Excellent. Wide rings of tiny to medium bubbles, connected by thin columns.
First pour – Light yellow, clear.
Aroma – 4 – Pine and generic citrus – nice!
Flavor – 4 – Very refreshing citrus, tending more toward tangerine or mandarin orange rather than grapefruit. The pine from the nose is absent. No alcohol (4.5 % ABV), no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 – Thin, watery, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4 – A happy accident I even tried this since the bartender told me it’s made by Sam Adams. It isn’t, and even better, it’s a new brewery for me and a very good brew as well. Double win!

Taste: tangy, tart, bitter grapefruit hops, clean finish. Citrus peppery citrus hop nose. Pale straw hue, mostly clear, with a white head and some lace. Medium to med/light body. Multi types hops used but still mellow. 40 IBUs

I feel like Golden Road kills it (in a good way) when it comes to making super zesty, lemony, multi-layered IPA style ales and this pup is at the top of that game.

What you get is a huge lemon and citrus zest presence both in the nose and the tongue all backed up by a cracker dry malt body. It’s both a hoppy delight with a tongue tickling almost minty flavor but also easy to drink and sessionable - perfect for hot summer days or when you are cooking out. Not as weak in the mouthfeel as some of the session IPAs and a really enjoyable combination of hop flavors.

I had it on draft recently after a hike and it was a bit of a shock in terms of how damned good it tasted.

This and Firestone Walker’s Easy Jack are amazing for lighter IPAs and a great gateway into the world of hops.

Very good for a session. Light crisp. Just enough hoppiness. Doesn't have a big bold flavor. However it does have a good flavor. Thirst quenching and effervescent. Easy to drink a bunch of these puppies.
