Very Good
Wolf PupWolf Pup
Notes: Hoppy and refreshing, Wolf Pup is our riff on a Session IPA. Highly drinkable with a wildly aromatic tropical and citrus character, it’s the perfect companion to keep on sippin’ for those long, sunny days.

Appearance: Medium gold but a bit hazy. Poured with two fingers of white foam that reduced to a thin froth.

Aroma: A mild hop aroma, fruit, berry, melon. A little grassy.

Taste: To me this is the big feature with this beer. You get a nice mouthful of hops that are fruity. There are different flavors that are tropical, berries and melon. Hop bitterness is medium and lingers but it is not harsh.

Feel: Body is between light to medium and very smooth.

Overall: This is an everyday beer for me. with the lower alcohol you can have a few of these and not get plowed. Good refreshing beer tto sit and enjoy after a hot job, a good days work or to just sit back and enjoy.

I am constantly on the hunt for a session IPA that can blend choice hop blends, low alcohol content (but not too low) and a refreshing burst of taste. Golden Road's Wolf Pup nailed it for me. Very golden color (almost like a lager). Pine needles, citrusy hoppy smell. Not too hoppy in the aftertaste, no strong alcohol lingering on the palate. You can drink about 3 of these before the "feel". Just moved on from Luponic Distortion by Firestone to Wolf Pup for my everyday "go to" beer. If you are looking for an IPA that you can drink and still be able to finish work around the house, this is the beer. Years ago, before I became a beer snob, I would drink ice cold Coors Light as my lawn mowing beer because it was like drinking water but you also felt like you were rewarding yourself. Since then I've moved onto session IPAs and low alcohol content IPAs as my lawn mowing beer. Wolf Pup has knocked it out of the park for me in this category.

My local Hyvee had this on sale for $4.99 so I had to get a six pack. I really couldn't ask for more for from a session IPA. Pours a nice cloudy yellow with a moderate head that quickly dissipates to some beautiful lacing. Delicious citrus flavor with a nice hoppy finish. Sparkling mouth feel with a nice clean finish. I am going back to pick up a case if they still have any. I would recommend it at twice the price that I paid.

Cloudy, light gold color. Modest starting head which settles to rim bubbles. A couple of streaks and spots for lace.

Mild pale malt base nose. The aroma is mostly citrus rind and peppery spices.

Hoppily bitter. The base shows up late and light. The swallow is lip-smackingly astringent and yet I would not put this into the extreme category. Solid body, particularly for a session beer. Good carbonation. I love session beers like this -- there's nothing lacking in the taste.

A: Pours a lightly hazy pale straw yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and faint lemon yellow + golden yellow colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall sudsy foamy off-white head that reduces to a large patch of mottled very thin film covering the entire surface of the beer with a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit, citrus/lemon zest, and tropical/mango hops over the top of a light aroma of grainy malts.

T: Upfront there are light flavors of cereal grain malts with a hint of grainy sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit, citrus/lemon zest, and tropical/mango hops which impart a light to moderate amount of bitterness which does not linger for too long.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Initially crisp with just a hint of dryness in the finish.

O: Easy to drink, enjoyable, and sessionable - perfect for hot summer days or when you are cooking out. Not as weak in the mouthfeel as some of the session IPAs and a really enjoyable combination of hop flavors + aromas. I'd happily put down a couple of these in a session/afternoon.

It poured a cloudy yellow ( almost an apricot color) with a foamy white head that leaves a good lacing to the glass. The smell is very citrus, grapefruit with maybe a hint of mango. The taste is citrus with some sweetness to it. The mouthful is light, smooth and very enjoyable. Overall I was very pleased.

Wolf Pup Session IPA brewed by Golden Road Brewing, with an ABV of 4.50% This American IPA pours out a nice golden amber color with a nice thick white head. Now there is a slight haze to this brew, so it unfiltered, not saying that is a bad thing. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with hop bitterness, citrus flavors and sweetness. You also pick up on a good amount of earthy grains and malts. There is a lot going on in this brew, between the look and smell this is one inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold with a nice Hoppy bite at first then a crips citrus flavors at the end. This brew would go nice on a warm summer day. The body of this American IPA is a solid medium. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down. This is real nice enjoyable drinking brew. The mouth feel is Hoppy, Citrus, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I am going to give Wolf Pup Session IPA a solid 4 out of 5. Golden Road Brewing, did a real nice job with this brew.

Very good for a session. Light crisp. Just enough hoppiness. Doesn't have a big bold flavor. However it does have a good flavor. Thirst quenching and effervescent. Easy to drink a bunch of these puppies.

12oz can. Pours a pale straw color with a thin layer of bubbles. No lacing. The aroma is packed with citrus and tropical fruits. Some berries and light dank notes. The taste is on par with the aroma. Pineapple, grapefruit, lime, papaya, melon, and some stone fruits. A bit floral at the finish with light crackery malts. Light body and carbonation. This is probably in the running for one of the top Session IPAs I've had. I will certainly be buying more of this next summer.

On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.

Pours a hazy light yellow with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. A foamy curtain of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, and grapefruit juice aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, grapefruit juice, and grapefruit candy flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty, light, and easy to drink.

Serving type: on tap.

Poured in a pint glass on draft and got a half inch white head that leaves some attractive streaks of lace behind.

Smell is herbal earthy hops, pine resin, Mellon, and some grapefruit rid.

Taste follows nice amount of earthy hops, some Mellon, pine, and a little grapefruit bitterness to round it out.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp, plenty of life, not dry, and drinks very easy but bigger flavor than 4.5% ABV.

Overall I would definetly revisit this, a very nice session IPA.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 5/30/2017. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lime, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, cracker, white bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/fruity hops and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lime, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, cracker, white bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lime, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, cracker, white bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/fruity hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a great session IPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/fruity hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Very vibrant and fairly dank hops; with a nice malt backbone for the ABV. Very flavorful and never watery feeling. A very enjoyable offering.

I'm not really a lover of all things citrus, but this is surprisingly enjoyable. The citrus flavor was pretty obvious from the nose. Not too acidic despite the citrus. Specifically, it tastes more like grapefruit than generic citrus. Not especially hoppy, but plenty to enjoy. When I poured from the can, the head was nice and pleasant -- dissipated moderately, but I'm not the best at pouring anyway. Mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing. In fact, the whole experience is both crisp and refreshing. The color certainly reminds me of grapefruit, which would usually steer me away. But I'm actually really enjoying it about 3/4 done with the glass.

as much as i think the jury is still out (at least the jury in my head) on the wold among weeds, this wolf pup session is pretty awesome. very pale in color, straw yellow and with a very tall white head on it, creamy and thick, looks rich and robust for a session beer. amazing fresh pineapple nose to it, lots of citrus, limey more than lemons or grapefruit, zesty and fresh, quite a bit going on. it almost has a nitro mouthfeel to it, creamy and fluffy for something so light, taking this element to the extreme, its great. the hops do actually pack some bitterness, but this one appears to be all about the citrusy middle, so bright and clean, with just enough pils type and pale wheat malt character to make it still taste like a beer. this is like a creamier punchier all day, i was quite stoked on it, and it makes me want to revisit their other hoppy beers that i have found less impressive. lots of hops here for such a low alcohol beer, great for what is left of summer here, and one i will be happy to locate on tap again!

Tallish boy can poured into pint glass. Appearance is a glowing, hazy yellow with an almost green tinge. Small head with little retention, hardly any lace.

Great aroma for a session - super juicy and citrusy, with hints of pineapple, citrus zest, mango, guava, grapefruit, hops.

Taste follows through with lots of citrusy notes of lemon peel, grapefruit, lime, supported by tropical guava, mango, pineapple. Light pine and dry hops. Malt backbone is minimal, allowing the hop and citrus to shine.

Light bodied, slight dryness and only a hint of bitterness. Real easy drinking. Wouldn't mind having more of these in the future.
