Appearance: Pours a deep, nearly opaque, dark ruby/brown color with a minimal head. SRM of 20. (3.75)

Aroma: Mild aromas of dark bread, nuts, and slight vanilla aromas. Maybe the vanilla is the alcohol detection, hard to tell. (3.50)

Flavor: Mild flavors of brown bread, nuts with hints of toffee and vanilla. Traces of cocoa. Finishes malty, but lightly so. (3.50)

Feel: Lighter-bodied. Low carbonation. Sort of finishes watery due to the carbonation. (3.50)

Compared to Newcastle Brown Ale 1/18/21: Pours a similar color but a milder head. Milder aromas. More malty and dark flavors. Less ester and also a lighter-body with less carbonation.

Overall: A pretty standard brown ale. Less fruity esters for an English than I would expect. Leans malty with dark bread, nuts, vanilla, and even hints of cocoa. Sort of reminds me of a Tootsie-Roll. A lighter body and not overly sweet. The body is sort of watery. Otherwise a decent Brown Ale. It's not a bad beer, but this rating seems kind of low. (Final Rating: 3.57)

I had this at LAX airport, in February, just before Coronavirus crippled the airline industry. It was pleasant enough, but I found it undistinguished, a slightly milder version of your basic brown ale. Let's hope This Covid-19 Virus pandemic curtails soon, and we can all get on with our lives. Bless you all.

On tap at Oak and Stone. Meh. A pretty Coca Cola color. Not much to smell. And nothing overwhelming in the taste. A simple, smooth brown. A little cardboard flavor felt off.

Love this one. Nutty and malty with a ton of drinkability. Touch of coffee and lots of toffee in the background. Great fall/winter brew.

Good representation of a nut brown English Ale. Caramel, chocolate and hazelnut notes. Flavors come out better as the ale gets warmer as it comes of the tap too cold for this style.

12-oz. can (11/13/18) poured strongly into a 16-oz mug yields a 1/2 finger of tan short lived froth with spotty lacing. Translucent, slightly hazy chestnut brown with red highlights, appears old copper penny color in front of light.
Smells of caramel and roasted malt, a little bread and yeast with very faint hops.
Taste begins semi-sweet and lightly bitter with the malt standing out. The middle features faint coffee, chocolate and roasted pecans. The finish is quick, neutral and slightly bitter with hops at their most noticeable level, still on the low side. A mineral aftertaste lingers.
Light body (a little watery) with low carbonation, soft and smooth feel.
True to style and enjoyable, could use a little more malt to the backbone.

Had on tap. Poured clear brown with ring of white foam. Smell was brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts and vanilla. Taste had light breadiness to the base, plus a smattering of toffee encrusted nuts. Little of the sweeter end of brown ales, but delicious. Great mouthfeel, medium bodied with bready smoothness and a touch of cloying sweetness.
