A decent beer when you are a bit tanked and don't care anymore. But while sober? Ay Mami!

Raul dug into this thing on both occasions. While slightly sloppy, Raulsky tipped this thang like his lil soldier chugs Kiwi Kool Aid. It was clean enough. Kind of like adding a car wash to your gas purchase kind of clean. Not perfect, but it did the job well enough.

But while sober? EEE wey! Like Snooky after 2 hours too long in the hot Jersey sun i.e.: tanning bed. Light and skunky. Not macro skunky, but just not that good.

Served on-draught at Spitz in Los Feliz during Golden Road's tap takeover. Cost was something like $9 courtesy of the extortionists at Spitz. Served into a pilsner glass. No stangen here. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a beige colour head about a finger and a half in thickness. Nice thickness, average cream. Average (~2 minute) retention. No lacing or "legs."

Body colour is a clear yellow. Translucent. Somewhat vibrant. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Clean crisp pale malts. Grainy. Not getting any grape must or anything fruity as is typical of good examples of the style. Crystal malt. No yeast or alcohol is detectable. A light aroma. Generally appealing. Clean barley and pils malts are evident.

T/Mf: Clean crisp pale and pilsner malts dominate. Rounded and grainy with a biteen of crystal malt fizziness. Decently balanced, but simple - lacking the complex intricacies and nuances that make great kolschs what they are. Hop presence is minimal in strength and floral in character. Hopping is generic. Flavour intensity and duration is average.

Smooth and wet, but a light coarseness helps facilitate flavour delivery a bit better. Crisp. Refreshing and approachable. Light buttery feel. Nice carbonation. Decent presence on the palate.

Dr: A nice little refreshing kolsch from Golden Road, but far from the greats in this style. I might get it again at a good price. A decent summer beer, but nothing unique or special. One of the better beers brewed by Golden Road, but that isn't saying much.

Attractive clear golden color with a creamy tall head in the Peroni lager glass. Spritzy and nicely carbonated.

A hint of resiny hops. Not much of the usual perfumey notes. Some light crackery malt. Slight grainy flavor with something like plain popcorn. Slight bitterish aftertaste. This reminds me more of a lightweight Wit than a Kölsch, but it is quite pleasant and drinkable. Not very flavorful.

For a light beer to gulp cold, this might be an improvement over the usual lagers, but it's not so interesting as a Kölsch. From the 16 oz can purchased at Bottleworks in San Diego.

On tap at the 2013 Firestone Walker Invitational held at the Paso Robles Event Center in Paso Robles, CA.

Confirmed with owner Tony Yanow that this is a completely different beer than West Kolsch.

Pours a clear yellow with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and grassy aromas. Taste is much the same with crisp grassy flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and refreshing.
