Smooth roasted coffee and malts with some spice to it. A great light porter.

A- Pours a deep brown in color, with lots of red tones and not very close to black. Average sized, 2 finger head forms and is medium tan in color. Retention and lacing are both very good. Some particulates are suspended in the body of the beer.

S- Lots of chocolate notes hit the nose first and are backed up by a little bit of burnt malt. Mostly sweeter chocolate flavors here that dominate the scent throughout.

T- Lots more burnt malts are prominent in the taste compared to the scent. Not much in the way of the chocolate flavors I found on the nose here. Starts dry and burnt in the flavor department. Burnt flavors are just a little bit bitter and are the primary flavor throughout the drink. Burnt flavors linger after the drink with maybe just a touch of smokiness.

M- This beer is rather thin and light on the tongue with a medium level of carbonation. Strong burnt malt flavors provide a little bit of body. This beer is pretty easy to drink too.

Overall, this is a slightly above average porter. It would really stand out if the chocolate on the nose translated into more chocolate in the flavor. Otherwise, there are some good burnt malt flavors and quality feel on the tongue. I wouldn't mind drinking a few more of these.

4 oz pour at tasting even. Growler. Review from notes.

A- Thin brown body with light head. Not too deep brown
S- Nice balance hop malt, hops and some woodsyness
T- Smokey malts with just a bit of hops for balance. Pretty good overall profile and balance
M- A bit on the thin side, but not a major detractor

O- Solid, straight forward porter with smokey tones

On tap at the Tomlinson Tap Room. Poured a wonderful deep, shiny brown, with some very excellent tan head and some nice lacing. Good deep dark malt scent with roasted grains and a lot of coffee. Huge coffee flavors, slight chocolate tones, and a nice earthy finish; very nice roasted grains; just slightly unbalanced from the coffee. Went down quite nicely.

P: Nice dark opaque brown pot. Not much head at all.
A: Coffee, chocolate, vanilla and smoke.
T: Heavy coffee, sweet chocolate and vanilla.
M: Mild, sweet, clean with some bitterness.
O: One step ahead of a typical Porter. This drinks more like a stout. At 5%, a great drinker.

Decent porter from Fountain Square brewing. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a medium tan head and thin lacing on the glass. Smells of coffee and dark chocolate and sweet caramel malts. Very rounded mouthfeel, not overly coating. Tastes of chocolate up front, medium roast coffee on the back, caramel on the sides with light bittering hops on the aftertaste. As a fan of English style ales, this hits the mark. Solid session beer for the porter fan. As a note I will add that some of the beers in the six pack were complete foamers, just so happens this one did not explode. Lots of variance from beer to beer. Still, this one was a winner. Will try the little lady's later and see how she fares with it. Subject to re-review.

P: On-tap in to a 16 oz cup.

A: SRM is dark brown. Semi-translucent. Head is tan, 1 in, dissipates to outsides of the beer. Medium carbonation. Medium lacing.

S: Rich dark malt base with a touch of the classic porter smell. Light coffee notes and a touch of hops.

T: Dark malt, light roastiness, with a bit of the classic porter bite and a natural malt flavor. Light hops. Crisp and clean flavors.

M: Medium body. Roasted malts give a balanced and slightly creamy feel. Semi-dry finish.

O: Very drinkable and a good example of an American Porter. This beer is nicely executed. I would like to see this beer on-tap around the city in more locations. I will order this beer any time I see it available.
