this was a cool beer and it has aged really well. apparently they took some yeast from one of the spiced seasonal beers they do and fermented this strong ale with it before it went in the bourbon barrels, which, turns out, is a genius move. the spice profile of autumn here, allspice, clove, and anise to me, i think its awesome with how much of the bourbon comes through in the nose. still sweet and hot, but this is all so well mellowed now a couple of years on that none of it is too intense, including the warming alcohol, which is well short of subtle, but it is relaxed enough for this to go down pretty easy. lots of wood, a little of the barrel char, a molasses sort of burnt sugary thing. i love it not being too too heavy. that cinnamon note i sometimes taste in whiskey is sort of picked up in the spice profile that was carried over with the yeast from either yule or ghoul fuel, which is a lesson learned in its own right, i love how that works in this old ale and with its bourbon profile. i also think its neat that they collaborated with these highly recommended liquor stores on the beer, grapevine and mile high are two of the very best! if you still have one of these, now is the time!

From a 500 ml bottle (bottled April 8, 2014) to a snifter. Reviewed from notes dated September 8, 2014.
A-The brew is the color of dark tea. One finger of grey-brown head fades quickly to a thick collar. A sheen on top leaves "legs" on the glass as I drink.
S-The aroma is sweet with dark fruit (prune, plum, raisin), brown sugar, molasses, leather, and a hint of citrus. Alcohol heat is noticeable. Interesting but not for the faint of heart.
T-The taste is hugely sweet with dark fruit, molasses, and brown sugar flavors. The high level of alcohol is obvious, but it provides a nice bit of spiciness on the finish.
M-The feel is a touch thin for the style with medium levels of carbonation.
O-This is a pretty tasty beer, but it is not one to hide its alcohol or flavor. Some might call it a bit rough around the edges. Nevertheless, I found it enjoyable and it would make a good sipper on a cold winter's night. My biggest knock is the thin mouthfeel, which contributes to the hot, sort-of rough flavor profile. Age might help here.

From 11/22/14 notes. Big thanks to BeerLawyer85 for sharing this one; had never heard of it and liked it a lot. 375ml bottle into a tulip.
Pours a reddish mahogany brown color with one inch of light tan head and moderate carbonation evident. Smells amazing, caramel malts, oak, toffee, sweet bourbon, oak, and toasted malts. Medium body and low carbonation. The sweet caramel and swete bourbon is fantastic.
Overall very good, with a great nose. Sweet bourbon ins fantastic, and easy to drink. Reminds me a little bit of MoaS, though not quite on that level. Would love to have it again.

Pretty nice. I found it to be a bit hot and also heavy on the oak. May have to pick up a second one to see how it ages.
