What a great brew. It's kind of a Royal Oil-Light. Well, it's not light by any means but not as thick as the Oil. Not a lot of carbonation so the mouth-feel is pretty smooth. What I get from the taste is cherry twizzlers. It's so sweet and yummy. When ever they have this on tab, i have to get two at least. :)

This seems to have been highly sought after in the mid 2010s, lots of "wants" from that era. I can see why, this is a really nice throwback. Not thiccc, not sweet, not boozy, it is smooth, mellow, and sublime. Dry overall but not incredibly roasty, semi-sweet chocolate and low-key barrel notes are the most obvious attributes here. Light, oaky char, mild vanilla, and a faint vinous note also present themselves. No one aspect stands out but it all comes together soooo well. One of the best straight up BA big stouts I've tried. Thanks a ton for this Dave!

Back in the Wild West days of Disneyland, the Pirates of the Caribbean ride had a part where a pirate chases after a bodacious broad. Then, when things started to change in this life a bit, that wasn’t seen as “fit,” so Disney added a chicken in her hands to give the idea that the pirate was going after the chicken. So, as a whole, to Raul, this beer is before they added the chicken.
Bon appetite.

Big anticipation on this one. 2017 bottle.
L - Tulip pour. Deep woody brown. Very nice frothy 2 finger head. Looked thin coming out of the bottle and the lacing gives the same impression.
S - nothing in your face. Quality but time.im getting a nuttiness. Something about it makes me think of the nougat in a candy bar over nuts. Smells of average sweetness so im nkt saying this smells like a pastry. Really not getting a lot on the nose. Not sure if its just the beer of if my smell is off.
T/F - lots of roasted grain. The flavors start pretty light and tame but you get an increase in perceived bitterness and char on the finish. Its not very complex. I can taste the oak but no trace of any spirit. It states that its "barrel aged" im curious from what. There's alcohol heat all throughout that doesnt seem integrated enough. Feel is solid albeit a bit volatile. It doesn't feel heavily carbonated but something about it is a bit abusive to the tongue. Something in the chemistry. It doesn't taste vinegary but it lightly gives the same feel.
Overall - not what I hoped. A very, very basic beer. Not a lot of depth or anything to pick apart. Char, oak, ethanol.

Black body with a fair head, tan and creamy but less than one-finger thick. Excellent charred grain aroma with a hint of barrel-aging and esters. Milk chocolate base flavor with a bold bourbon undertone; cocoa. Heavy body; soft and fluffy on the palate; semi-sweet mouthfeel throughout.
A fine regional barrel-aged imperial stout, rich and robust. This sample was a 2019 example, bottle #0339 and bottled on 05/21/19. The bottle cap interior had 'Sunlight Peak 14,059'".

Sampling a 2017 vintage bottle. Poured at cellar temp into my snifter. The beer pours jet black in color with a dense creamy beige head of 1 cm. This foam remains as a sturdy surface layer throughout the sampling. There is dense lattice on the glass after each sip.
Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malt, oak and bourbon notes. I also get some vanilla and a decent hit of booze. No hop presence, but the nose does remind me its a sipper.
First sip reveals a silky smooth textured thick body with fine and gentle rolling carbonation. The physical traits on this beer are very nice.
Flavor is robust and malty with roasted notes and dark chocolate mixing. I also get plums and bourbon notes. The finish dries out a bit and features the sweeter bourbon finish. Again I dont get a hop character and the booze does warm my belly some. A nice sipping Imp stout. I wish i had bought a second bottle whe visiting the brewpub. Definitely worth a try.

L: Pours a black somewhat muddy brown with a small tan head that doesn't stick around for too long, and very little lacing on the glass.
S: Cherry and vanilla are forefront in the nose followed by some wood and bourbon, and then some smoke ash, and roasted malt.
T: Ash, smoke and some peat mix with a nice strong cherry and vanilla, some roasted malt and a slight hop bitterness, with a pretty strong burn from the alcohol on the stomach.
F: Smooth thick body, could be a little thicker but still nice.
O: I have been looking for a bottle of this for a few years and it lives up to the expectations.

500ml bottle of 2017 vintage into two wine glasses with Lisa in Denver. Good not great and definitely NOT worth the hefty price tag. Smooth but not that chewy for the ABV. Chocolate and some wood/vanilla but not huge flavors. A bit disappointing. Maybe the 2017 batch isn't up to snuff as I definitely do not get the syrup and fudge others mention... Or maybe the pastry stout game has moved way past this.
