I am pretty surprised to see this rated as highly as it is. It is one dark room without character. The beer selection average, even by the low standards of Pittsburgh. The bartender was clueless. The inscrutable bottle pricing system is the worst feature though. The bottles in the self serve fridge have a sticker with a number on them. In my example I grabbed a Lagunitas Sucks that had a 4 on it, which I thought was an aggressive but not out of the ordinary for Pittsburgh price. I brought two of them to the bar to pay and was charged $13. She told me the number on the sticker is actually a code for what the price actually is. I guess if you are in the strip district and need a beer this probably is your only choice, but I can think of 20 places within a couple miles that I would much rather patronize.

Here it goes, the BeerHive is in the Strip District a bit of a beer wasteland...this place has fixed that problem. Located a stone's throw away from Island Jim Robinson's oasis...Leaf and Bean cigar shop. I stopped in after buying some of Leaf and Bean's house branded cigars by Oscar and by Esteban respectively from Honduras and Nicaragua. Guess what, this place was a pleasant surprise. Well thought out food menu, small but quality tap selection, and pretty damn extensive bottle selection. Look I had a draft coffee beer from Coronado, which turned into the blonde bartender, Jamie giving me tips on what to try next. She suggested another coffee beer which she thought had much more coffee flavor...I went for it. Damn she was dead on the new Abita brewer's reserve coffee beer was bomb!!! She showed interest in me and my friend, the entire time didn't get lost on her facebook account, the girl new how to tend bar. She even asked what kind of cigars I had from Leaf and Bean, and mentioned that their regulars come over for growler fills and food from time to time. Now when I nearly fell in love was when this Jamie girl, expressed her love for Ballast Point Sculpin IPA after I was served a super fresh can of this famous West Coast IPA...overall, I'm a BeerHive fan I hope to back soon to small gem hidden in the Strip District of Pittsburgh, PA. BTW, we had some wings, they were okay promised Southwest flavors of lime, cilantro, and jalapeƱo only to be met with dull bland tasting time I'm steering away from the wings and on to some of the other tastier sounding food items.

This place was a pleasant surprise during a weekend shopping excursion to the Strip District. Located on Penn Avenue next door to Roxanne's and Strip District Meats. Nice, cozy little place with an excellent bottle and draft selection. Courteous service provided me with a bottle list. Draft prices were between $5-$6 with Founders, Southern Tier, and Great Divide among the draft choices. Nice to have to more options to drink quality beer in the Strip District. I would strongly recommend vistiting.
