Solid if unexceptional barleywine. Looks the part, straightforward aroma and flavors bringing distinctive apple notes, brown sugar, caramel, earthy hops. Modest but perceptible bitterness on the back end, generally dry finish. Nice medium body and carbonation, pleasing feel overall. This is a solid example of the style albeit an unmemorable one.

Used to have this on tap at Brewology. The color is a hazy amber. The nose is brandy with fruit and caramel. For me, the taste brought out more of the nose as I got apple, vanilla, and pear. The body is medium but not a heavy as you would expect for a barleywine. A crisp yet clean finish. Delicious overall and a strong beer from PJBC.

Amber and opaque. The amount of apple brandy on the nose is impressive... Lotsa of gentle caramel amid the apple, higher vapors of alcohol and barrel wood. Sweet, sinuous, and graceful. Apple is the primary fruit impression, naturally, but hints of pear, vanilla, caramel, and alcohol are evident throughout. The body is medium, the barrel aging thins things out somewhat, but the feel is just right for the ale, albeit perhaps a tad light compared to some barleywines I've had. Some fizz and tingle, of carbonation and alcohol's heat. Leaves a sweet apple caramel candy and booze aftertaste. Little sting on the palate - crisp, sharp, perhaps a tad bit tart. A superior ale in my opinion. And only ~ $11 around here.
