As a retired U.S. Navy sailor, I truly miss getting underway. I mentioned this to a buddy on Veterans Day & he suggested riding ferries as a way to get water under my feet again! What a great idea! I took Amtrak to Penn Station (NYP), transferred to the LIRR, rode out to Port Jefferson, NY and took the ferry across Long Island Sound to Bridgeport, CT to watch back-to-back nights of AHL hockey before coming home. I also scored some CANs of beer for The CANQuest (tm) while I was at it.
From the CAN: "Fishing, Swimming, Boating, Naked Diving Contests, Paddle Boating, CANoeing, MILF Hunting, Water Skiing, Tubing, Knee Boarding, Sailing, Family Reunions, Clamming, Wake Boarding, Picnics, Barbeques, Dealing with Inlaws, Walks on the Beach, Paddle Boarding, Meat, Surfing, Concert Going, Island Hopping, Marriage Proposals, Happy Hours, Bamping, Archaeology, Scrapbooking, Scuba Diving, Skim Boarding, Sightseeing, Love, Fly Fishing, Friendship, Family! *This Beer Is Approved for All Above* When Consumed Responsibly".
The Crack! was loud & revealed a brimful craft CAN, but I have been exercising restraint in my Glugs of late. The new, unfiltered trend is fine, but I just never know any more. It all worked out. I still got two-plus fingers of dense, rocky, tawny head with great retention for my effort. It ook forever to fall, leaving great, sticky lacing in its wake. Color was solidly Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity and loads of CO@ bubbles in evidence. Nose smelled heavily of sticky, resinous pine! Whew! Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was very minty, pine-like, mixed with peppermint and/or wintergreen and just enough caramel malt to keep the back of my head from exploding! Heck, I had some on-tap at the brewery & I do not remember it being this good! Okay, enough of the exclamation points! Sheesh! But, in all seriousness, this was really good. Finish was dry, but just right in terms of its bitterness. It left a faint powdery feeling in my throat, as though they had dry-hopped it to the point of saturation, but not overly so. I might have to make that trip again.

-amber tap pour with a
slight haze and a Snow White foam cap.
The aroma is faint and oddly earthy.
The flavor is of woody and earthy hops, not a prevalent hop mix.
The mouthfeel is dry, approaching chalky.
The hop bitterness is moderate.
I’ll try this one another time for a re-check

First impression from the look is excellent. Hazy for sure with a nice golden color. Unfortunately it goes south from there. Little to no smell. Taste is hard to pinpoint. Try’s to be a New England style but misses due to lack of fullness throughout the mouthfeel. Does have a dank finish that proves it’s ipa pedigree. Decent lacing also in that corner. But the mouthfeel overall doesn’t impress. I wanted something local and this was it. That being said, it’s the better of the other two ipa choices.

20th review. When on Shelter Island, I try to buy LI craft including SI Brewery, and this Port Jeff, satisfies.
a) Mostly clear, large bubbled orange amber body that builds a wide head that lasts and laces.
s) From the crack it's pine first, caramel malt, and lemony-limey citrus.
t) The aroma and flavor remind me of Dales Pale, here with more puckering pine bitter and balanced malt.
f) Loose bubbled, clean, old fashioned beer bite. Also like the original Ballentine IPA.
o) Classic east coast IPA leaning toward APA or EIPA.

Had this on tap back where I grew up on Long Island while waiting to meet a high school buddy during my "home for the holidays" tour. I am trying to sample more LI beers as the scene finally explodes.
This is a fine but nothing special IPA that starts more golden than copper in hue and a solid white head. with medium citrus and pine resin and a bit of a watery mouthfeel. Not bad, just not memorable.

Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a quarter inch white head that leaves nice lacing. Smell is mild with citrus fruits and sweet malts. Tastes of grapefruit, orange zest, pine, honey and sweet malts. Medium bodied, bitterness and carbonation slightly dry finish.
