pretty sure this is a bayhawk contract brew; ocean avenue is definitely a restaurant as opposed to brewery. the product served is a drinkable west coast pale, but it has no real character. some cascadey hop notes on the nose, with a touch of malt. these aromas persist across the palate. medium body and mouthfeel for a beer with under 5% abv. some lingering bitterness at the back end. ocean pale tastes like a mass produced sierra pale, and they are the second largest "micro" in the states. nothing bad here, but nothing worth seeking out. the happy hour deal made it much more appealing; if i lived in laguna beach, i would probably drink these during the discounted hours.

Enjoyed on-tap @ the Ocean Brewing Co in Laguna Beach, CA for $5. Tapped into a Pint Glass from a Wooden Handle and went for it because this was one of there very limited brews (even though they only have 2 otherwise?).

Aroma- Starts with a light hop and light malt aroma. Might have a bit of caramel but close to nothing if so. Very good!

Appearance- Received with .5 finger head and appropriate! Light pale yellow color body with great clarity. No lacing afterwards.

Flavor- Lower hop flavor form the start (floral?) and then has a low bitterness. Everything here is appropriate but nothing over the top. Average pale ale.

Mouthfeel- Light Bodied, Low Carbonation, and leaves small amount of hop on the palate but just for an instant.

Overall Impression- Has a great drinkability to it and very refreshing! One of the lightest pale ales I've had in a while and it went well with the atmosphere of the place!

An exceptionally good looking pale, the body on this is very bright golden and quite clear. A nice off-white head graces the top and does good lace.

Light nose of malt and some light hopping. The flavor is a very muted malt flavor with slight hints of bitter hops. The feel is smooth and ends crisply with great dryness. More easily drinkable with a bit more hop content.

It was either this or the amber ale of available house brews, so I went to the pale side. On to the beer:

Luring pale blonde straw in color, this beer leaves a bunch of thin lacing on the glass as it's consumed. At first, it's dusty citrus with subdued malts, but the flavors get better as it warms. Bready malts with a fruity pinch and a touch of caramel cookie emerge as I could more into my pint. It's not explosive in taste, but it's sessionable and easy to drink.

Appearance: Clear gold with a few bubbles rising throughout and a low white head.

Smell: A little bit of floral hops, yeast, and hay.

Taste: Moderate bitterness up front, neutral malts and bread-like yeast.

Mouthfeel: Thin and moderately carbonated.

Overall: Middle of the road pale ale.
