When checking through my trip notes, I was a little surprised not to see this place on BeerFly. It's a pretty massive hall with a large outdoor seating area right in front of the Frauenkirche. It's also only about 50 feet from the more famous Andechser Am Dom.
I've been there on several different trips and have enjoyed the food and beer selections. The most recent visit was June of 2011.
Outside it actually looks quite a bit like the Grossgastatte, although there is a much larger patio section out front. The inside reminds me a little of a townhouse layout. It's made up of several fairly narrow dining rooms on a couple different floors. There appeared to be bars on each floor, too. Wood paneling is par for the course around here. I haven't seen it, but I guess they have a biergarten courtyard, too.
As expected, they're an Augustiner hall, so they have the Augustiner beer line-up. On draft they have the helles, dunkel, Edelstoff (export), and any seasonals. My visits have been in the early summer, so they had the Maibock. All drafts are available in 1/2L and 1L sizes. In bottles they have the pils and weiss. Since their Augustiner weiss is only in bottles (and it doesn't seem to be a local favorite) they also have draft weissbier from Franziskaner if you like. Got a thing for schnapps/obstler? They have a house schnapps and a special regional spirits menu as well.
Food is what you'd expect. Schnitzel, sausages, sauerbraten, etc. are all available and are respectable takes. They have absolutely wonderful pork dumplings on some nights, although they only seem to have a limited amount. They make their own house mustard for the pretzels, which is a nice touch. Their desserts make for a good light snack and are especially tasty.
It's probably worth mentioning that they share their patio area with a local wurst vendor, so you can get their sausages, too.
Service is typical, although a hair more tourist oriented than many other places. The staff speaks English and they're a bit more "hands-on" instead of waiting to be flagged.
Overall, it's a good spot when you're around Marienplatz and craving a draft Lagerbier hell or dunkel. It's also especially welcome when the Andechser am Dom is full...which it often is. Lots of room, good food, and great beers have made this a regular stop for me.
