A: The beer pours nearly black with a creamy tan head sitting on top.
S: Smells of coffee and coffee ground with a nice roasted malt base to it. Light sweetness in the form of toffee and molasses with some dark chocolate/cocoa powder in there as well. A mild ash note is detectable, unfortunately.
T: Really a solid flavor. Roasted malts and coffee are the primary flavor components. Plenty of dark chocolate with a subtle molasses, licorice, and toffee flavor. Light earthy hops and minimal bitterness.
M: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation.
O: One of the better Taps beers I've had. Really easy to drink.

Pours a clear orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of roasted malt, toasted malt, and slight cocoa aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and caramel flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty but the mouthfeel is a bit off in my opinion.

A- Two finger tan head on a mahogany body. High clarity but dark color. Wonderful lacing and decent retention on the head.
S- Roast malts. Dark roasted smell.
T- Roasted and some chocolate flavors.
M- Smooth and dry with a bitter linger.

Black as the name suggest, with a bone white head and hues of orange at the bottom of the glass. It leaves some good streaks of white lacing on the glass. The nose brings to mind roasted coffee notes and mocha....yummy. It's almost stout-like in that aspect.
Taps Schwarzbier tastes good. Coffeeish flavors and mocha show a good amount of intensity for the style, nothing subdued or weak. There's a kick of spicy hops towards the end of the palate, and that note especially echoes on in the aftertaste. It's a little hoppier than your tradional schwarz, but don't confuse this with a hopbomb.
Sometimes crafting something traditonal works better than putting a twist on it. Taps continues to make good traditionally brewed beers.

i always appreciate a good german style brew, especially from an american brewer who pays attention. not enough of these around, and as much as these are not hot right not, good ones can be great. this is better the mediocre, but it doesnt get quite as deep and dark on the malt side of things as i prefer in this style. its got more of a brown ale color to it, and thats the bulk of the grain flavor too, cocoa and just a little roasty. the flavor is entirely grain driven, more bitter than a brown ale and with a decidedly german yeast complexion in the finish, drying this right out. it tastes a touch oxidized to me, but i never really mind that in small proportion in some of the old european styles. this does have a good crispness to it, and an incredible lightness for a darker colored beer, very mild body and higher carbonation, it goes down easy and leaved a little bitterness on the tongue. i think they could take this a little darker, give some of the near burnt grain character to it, but its a well made beer and very drinkable.
