On tap at Taps Brew Pub in Tustin, CA.

To say that Raul is well versed on Hefeweizen’s is to say that Kim Kardashian can recite the alphabet - I have limited knowledge. What I do know is, is that this beer actually glowed a darker light brown hue compared to the vibrant yellow that he is used to. So in Raul’s opinion, he thinks this one is more traditionally German, rather than the ultra bright yellow, bubble gum tasting American versions that he has had in the past. But yeah, Raul is more into the traditional ones just like he’s more into Heidi Klum over Kendall Jenner - give me something with life experience, rather than some young hussy anytime.

Yep!

On tap at TAPS Fish House & Brewery in Corona, CA.

Pours a hazy gold with a foamy white head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, spice, yeast, and banana aromas. Taste is much the same with banana and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

On tap at Taps in Brea.

A: Hazy yellow with a white head. Yep.

S: Orange and lemon with lots of banana and just a little bubblegum. Wheat accompanies a light bread profile. Clove is evident.

T: Wheat with yeast-driven banana and prominent clove. There's a slight tanginess to it. The beer is moderately sweet, a bit too sweet.

M: Lower medium body with upper moderate carbonation.

Overall: A pretty good Hefeweizen.

403rd review on BA
Draft

App- Nice little beer with some hazy yellow and a little soft gold. One finger head with a little cling

Smell- It was decent for a hefe, I havent been blown away by an hefe only the Weistephaner. This was a mix of soft banana and a little clove.

Taste- I liked it because it was small on the wheat side and struck a nice balance of wheat/banana and spice

Mouth- Almost light bodied and almost fairly well carbed. Was nice

Drink- A nice little hefe. Wasnt too bland, wasnt too overspiced. Just tasted good.

On-tap at the Corona location. I'm surprised I've never had a glass to my own until now. On to the beer:

It glowing a paler shade of orange with a very little head. Head retention is below average, and there's almost no lacing lacing left over. There's cinnamon hitting my nose, and that's a good sign of it not being another bland palk wheat ale.

The flavor has some complexity. Banana bread is the most dominant of the ntoes, with lemon and cinnamon tagging along for the ride. It's good. However, the mouthfeel, at first, seemed too thin and watery. As I drank more, the the mouthfeel seemed to "fill up", and it became decent in that perspective.

Pleasant. Taps' Hefeweizen would be a good beer to pair with sweeter bakery goods, such as coffee cake. Hmmm, I should try that one day....

A: The pour is a hazy, golden color with a nice white head which left some lacing on the glass.

S: I was pleasantly surprised to find the aromas of banana and clove rather than the usual bad pale wheat ale you find at American brewpubs. While this was a nice surprise, the nose was probably a bit heavy on the clove.

T: Like the nose, the flavor is dominated by the clove and spice with the bananas coming through quite a bit as well. The wheat doesn't really have a chance to come through.

M: The body is a light-medium with abundant carbonation. A lot of times this wouldn't be the best, but it works well with this beer.

D: The spice was a bit heavy for my taste, but this was still a pretty enjoyable beer. The fact they have the right flavor profile is nice to see and helped in my drinking of it.

Grabbed a growler to go and went...

Nice darker tint than most hefs I've had. Perfect caramel color, not yellow at all. Not too much of a head, but it was also my first pour from a growler.

Nice strong scent, very, very pleasing. Banana? Light orange? Caramel?

Good strong hef flavor. Bananas and heavy cloves. The wife suggests anise? I have a soft spot for hefs and I like this one.

Overall: good stuff man! So glad I have a whole growler of this. Except for the 3 or 4 sips my wife borrows, it's all mine. Gonna polish it off while watching the UFC fight tonight.

Those were yesterday's notes; here's todays:

Finished the last glass right about the end to the fight, still enjoying it. Had a few shots of grey goose during but what the hell. If I'm ever in the neighborhood again, I wouldn't mind re-filling my growler.

Taster glass, consumed 03/06/08.

Cloudy, medium yellow. Thin skin of foam.

Slight honey aroma.

Wheat flavor with usual metallic component. A moment later, some peppery spiciness, sweetness and barley-style maltiness appear towards the end. No banana. No cloves.

Thanks to the brewmaster for the Euro hops: the spice notes save this hefe from the depths of mediocrity.

Sampled this afternoon at the Corona location, named best Bavarian Hefeweizen at the 2002 California State Fair

A-Light yellow with a slightly orange tint, 1/2 inch bubbly white head that settled quickly, no lacing

S-Cloves, banana, wheat, orange peels, lemon juice, sweet yeast, and different spices

T-Only thing I could really taste was the wheat and some mild orange flavors, thought somebody might have mixed some water in with it while I was not looking, weird tanginess as it warmed, did not even finish my taster glass, very weak tasting for an unfiltered wheat beer

M-Dry mouthfeel, too light, excess carbonation, taste did not last at all

D-Could drink a lot of this because it is so watered down and light, goes down with ease, low alcohol percentage, not filling at all

Least favorite of the seven beers I tried here today, nothing to it and very one dimensional, listed at 5.2% ABV, would not drink again or recommend

Poured a very cloudy golden, initial smell was strong with wheat malt, strong cloves, and a little banana. But for most the time after it was just mainly wheat and cloves. Taste was pretty much similar, banana was very faint but plenty of cloves and wheat. The mouthfeel was a highly unfiltered smoothness. I don't really like the balance to the cloves and wheat as much. This needed to be just a bit sweeter for my liking.
