People, for the love of God, when you review a beer, please judge the beer according to the style, not according to your subjective tastes. You're drinking a cream ale, not a triple IPA; it should be boring, clean, and drinkable. And so, I give this beer a perfect score:

A: Golden straw, very light, with absolutely no chill haze (clarity is stellar)

S: Cereal sweetness, hay, grassy notes

T: Grassy hops, sweet malts

M: Very pleasant, light/medium body

O: A perfect cream ale; this and Foam Topper are my two favorites of this incredibly boring style. Perfect growler beer to drink in one sitting with one or two friends.

First beer offered at the Taps Fish House's Taste of the Harvest Beer Dinner on 10/21/03. This brew had a clear golden color with a thin creamy white head that stayed through to the bottom and left nice sheets of lace. Smell was fruity, of green apples, with a dusty malt aroma and some light citrus notes. The taste was quite sweet and fruity up front with a lightly bitter finish. Feel was light-bodied, dry, clean and refreshing. Taps Cream Ale is an easy quaffing brew that's a nice complement to a light meal or while sitting back watching a game.

On tap at Linx in the Plaza in Orange, CA.

My first jump into the Cream Ale world and Raul doesn't think that he will jump again. Metallic like your lil sisters retainer and 'adjuncty' like 'The Great American"... we won't go there.

Drinkable on a warm summer day (today) but not excited like a Bar Rafaeli spread.

Taster glass, consumed 03/06/08.

Clear golden, thin skin of foam.

Sweet, malty aroma.

Mild citrus flavor up front arrives with unexpected sharpness. Very effervescent. Hint of malt. Slight corn flavor on aftertaste. There's even a little spiciness due to Euro style hops.

Light but good tasting.

A: The pour is a clear, light golden color with a white layer of foam on top.

S: The aroma is rather bland, with the main attribute being sweet malt and almost nothing else.

T: There isn't much of an improvement in terms of the flavor. This beer is extremely light. There's a light malt flavor and perhaps a touch of citrus. The finish has a corn character to it which is not what I was looking for.

M: Like most of the other aspects of this beer, the mouthfeel is light and watery.

D: This is another one of those beers that is drinkable because of a real lack of character. I wouldn't order this one again, however.

On tap at Taps in Brea.

A: Very pale yellow with a small white head.

S: Pronounced corn with a dash of biscuit. Light fruity esters, perhaps apple.

T: Corn with a light sweetness and a touch of DMS. Hop bitterness is low. Neither hops nor malt prevail. The finish displays an increase in sweetness.

M: Light in body with lower high carbonation.

Overall: A solid example of an amazingly boring style.

Appearance: Served on tap it had a golden color with orange hues and a fizzy white head on it. The retention was very poor. The head barely lasted from the tap to getting the glass in front of me.

Smell: Very little aroma on this beer. A thin malty smell but otherwise not much to speak of.

Taste: The beer opens a bit sour with a biscuity malt flavor and some apple or pear fruitiness. There is also some astringent flavor and a weird saltiness.

Mouthfell: Very watery and weak on the palate.

Drinkability: Overall this beer is just not a lot of fun. Thin malt profile and a watery feel leave a lot to be desired. Quite honestly I wonder how this beer won an award as they mention on their menu.

On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.

Pours a clear light yellow with a 1 inch white head that fades to a film on the top of the beer. Thick foamy rings of lace form on the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt/grain and a slight fruity aroma. Taste is of sweet malt/grain and the fruity flavors. This beer has a light carbonation level that still gives a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer but not bad for what it is.

Poured on-tap in a 16oz pint glass at the Playground in Santa Ana, CA. Reviewed from notes.

A- Finger width off-white head. Clear pale golden color. Decent carbonation. Little retention and some watery lacing.

S- Some light malts and a strange fishy aroma. Not terribly appealing. Light and subtle though.

T- Creamy and light malts. Finishes absurdly clean.

M- Light body, clean finish.

O- Ok. Was hoping for better.

On-tap at The Catch in Anaheim, CA. It's about time someone decided to carry this brewpub's brews. On to the beer.

This beer has a semi-golden color to it, but not much head retention from the tap. Its nose and flavor are sort of sweet like cream, but you can tell it took some corn to create that cream taste. As the beer warms, fruity flavors emerge. There is some vague bitterness left in the aftertaste.

Not bad at all. Good for once in a while drinking, but one pint per session would be all I could take.

I had this at the Brea location. It's a very nice cream ale, sweet with no real hops in either the nose or the mouth. The head dissipates fairly quickly.

The yeast is a bit unusual for a cream ale, lending a nearly Belgian nature to the ale.

A refreshing, unusual example of the style that is somewhat marred by over carbonation.
