Finding new zymological expressions is a noble dedication of the craft beer enthusiast. For those committed to the adventure of seeking new styles, beer destinations and breweries, we applaud you and dedicate this golden Belgian-style trippel ale.
This smooth and alluring Belgian golden ale is full of complex fruity pineapple flavors set against a spicy finish. Dried jasmine flowers added in the boil work with a higher alcohol level to augment Belgian pilsen, caramel and honey malts. Hop character is distinctly Chinook with an aromatic peppery finish that comes from Motueka hops grown in New Zealand.

Poured from a 650 ml bomber into my Boulevard tulip
Bottled: 5/2012
A - Cloudy, hazy orange color with minimal 1-finger head. Slight head retention
S - Normal Belgian yeasty bouquet with an 'odd' hop smell present. Nice scents of clove and apricot come to mind.
T - Right off the top, the standard Belgian yeast flavor hits you. Citrusy hints of orange peel, apricot, and zinfadel grapes with a little alcohol on the back end.
M- Medium carbonation. Not heavy but reaches every part of the pallette. A little heat from the booze but, overall, masked very nicely.
O - Nice trippel. Not the best but definitely worthy of another pickup

I'm not sure if I got a bad batch but the flavor and feel was not dry and light like a tripel should be. It was tangy and astringent to point that each sip brought about some serious cotton-mouth. I had to dump it.
Edit:
I kept a can and opened tonight to give it the benefit of the doubt.
It's got a super tangy scent, almost solvent-like flavor and it's making question if I'm tasting the same beer that others have reviewed. If the label didnt say this was a tripel I wouldn't have thought so, because this isn't a tripel.
It's too sweet to be a tripel. It's not light enough to be a tripel. If there are fruity esters, they're overpowered by the odd astringency.
This is my first review and, honestly the poor quality of the beer is what motivated me. Belgian beers and particularly tripels are my favorite. I drink them, read about them and make them. People shouldnt think this is what a tripel is.

I tried this after a long day of tasting at other breweries in and around Boston, so my rating might not be entirely accurate.

Be careful with this beer--they go down so smooth that it's easy to forget the 9.5% ABV! Definitely be sure to pair this with some of their bar bites if you want to put a couple back (trust me, it's worth it.)

An average example of a Belgian Tripel with little complexity.

Somerville Brewing Co. "Slumbrew Trekker Trippel"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, no apparent freshness dating
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Appearance: Hazy deep orange body. Short-lived head of creamy bright white. Limited head retention and lacing.
Aroma: Fruity, malty, mild chalky yeast. Mild phenols and background spice.
Flavor: Bold. Fruity, somewhat citrusy, and malty. Mild spice (coriander, clove, dull pepper). Somewhat tart. Notes of apricot, papaya, tangerine, apple, melon, pineapple, and background banana. It opens up as it warms. Gently caramelish, sugary, and honey-like. Median bitterness at around 30 IBUs. Finishes dry with an edge of tartness and fruit and a slight wipe of alcohol before some residual honey-like character rises (and lingers). Slight oxidation :(
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, or perhaps medium-light but with a dextrin's edge. Fine-bubbled, seemingly natural, mildly effervescent median carbonation. It gently caresses the tongue before opening up to become a bit more tingly.
Overall: Best when slightly warmed, as it opens up to reveal its full potential. Nicely fruity.

Look: Cooper towards orange in color; transparent. Pours with a thick layer of foam on the surface of the beer that dies down quickly leaving some patches on foam remaining. Some small bubbles present.
Smell: Spices, pineapple and mild hops. (Typical Trippel aroma.)
Taste: Similar to how it smells - spices, pineapple, mild hops with a slightly tangy finish. Very good.
Feel: Medium body. Medium carbonation that is smooth with just the right amount of fizzy sensation. Very slight tangy, spicy finish. Very nice.
Overall: Very good Trippel. Not as good as the authentic Belgian Trippels, but close. Decent beer from a brewer that is local to me.
