Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
An autumn brown ale with distinctive toasty flavors from an assortment of roasted malts and grains. As a seasonal, limited release beer, its nutty characteristics offer a great companion to colder climate cuisine. A bright hop finish from Cascade and Fuggles balance the toasted grain notes to create a new expression of autumn brown ales.

Brewed with Toasted Buckwheat, Maris Otter, Victory, Brown and Chocolate malts. Balanced with a bright hop finish from Fuggles and Cascade.

Deep dark brown with a big off white fluffy creamy head. A bit of lace and retention. Big roasted malt and dark chocolate. Some wood and booze and coffee. This is a serious brown ale. Has many qualities of a stout. Big flavor and full body. The malt profile is unique and super tasty. Smooth and creamy. Delicious stuff. Shines at room temperature. This is borderline stout or porter. Amazing beer.

Great, toasty brew. More choclatey stout than brown ale, but terms aside, great. Pairs beautifully with Indian.

eyes...
a good ole fluffy 2 fingers if light tan foam, pretty much as dark as brown can get, light passing through certainly has its work cut out for it, thank goodness for GPS... the lacing is really nice leaving a historical record on the sides of the glass like some rock face in the great canyon or such, the head fades at a decent pace (kind of like my hairline) but never quite goes away, after all that verbosity this is simply a good looking brew.

nose...
strong sweet coffee flooded with some sweet ass molasses, cocoa powder, some kind of fall spice... nutmeg ? the aroma is strong and delicious

taste etc...
a nice medium thickness in the mouth, the flavors match the nose to a tee with a slight more emphasis on the lingering chocolate notes, there is some burnt flavor in there (if you like starbucks you would like this), the flavor is really full here, lots of bitter chocolate
notes, a good amount of sweetness, lingering notes all over the place.the carbonation is pretty slick, just enough to keep things going and it gets out of the way when the flavor train comes down the track. Each sip is an invite to the party, you just are compelled to have some more.

verdict?
delicious, wonderfully tasty beer, perfect for the season, not too heavy but with heft... not too boozy but has some punch. great brew. this brewery has certainly impressed me lately.

Poured into a large snifter glass. The beer pours clear dark brown, but turns opaque as it collects in the glass. There's a thick, creamy tan head and visible tiny bubbles rising along the side of the glass. The beer smells like a typical brown ale with dark roasted malt, nuts, chocolate, and some woodiness from the hops. I don't get any alcohol in the scent. The flavor up front is nice and roasty with chocolate and nuts. Then the bitterness lingers in the back end of the mouth. There's some nice woodiness or perhaps pecan shell sort of flavor. The mild malty sweetness is well balanced by the back end hop bitterness. The body is medium to full with moderate carbonation. The beer is slick and the alcohol provides a nice warming effect even though it is only mildly detectable in the flavor. This beer drinks pretty well for a 7.5% ABV beer. This is an excellent beer.
