Enjoyed from the bottle in a DT snifter---Jungle JIm's closeout purchase.
Ale pours a lightly hazy, very colorful amber with a fantastic head of white dissipating foam that dies down to a thick pool and thick ring with excellent lacing. Nose of subtle honey, lemon grass, light citrus, and moderately bitter sticky/resinous hops. Flavors follow the nose with honey sweet malts, lightly spiced with citrus and bittering hops, a dash of white pepper, and a touch of caramel. Decent for what it is. Lightly dry finish is kept lively by prickly carbonation. Decent, but not astounding.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a hazy, medium golden amber with a great two finger white head that keeps building after pouring, eventually leaving heavy lacing. Aroma of spicy Belgian yeast, light coriander, light caramel malt and citrus hops. Flavor is mild caramel malt, light mixed stone and apple juices, attenuated citrus and grassy hops, finishes with herbal citrus flavors but only moderate hop bitterness. Medium bodied with a pleasant light creaminess. Flavor is light, but almost seems faded because there is definitely grassy and citrus hops here, but they seem tired. A nice neutral malt body could support some more aggressive herbal hopping. I'm wondering whether this is intentionally laid back in flavor or may be an older bottle, although it apparently just showed up on our market. Naming a beer Super Nova does kind of lead to some expectations of an intense experience, so I'm left wondering if this started out as a giant star or a small yellow one. Nice enough as a mellow IPA, well balanced between malt and subdued hops, but I'd sure like to try it fresh to see its potential. Interesting big difference between the aroma, which leans towards Belgium and the taste which is more East Coast US IPA. Worth the experience, but probably not a repeater unless I knew it was fresh (some bottle dating please, folks).

The beer pours a nice medium-light amber with a big, puffy white head. It's quite cloudy. Very good head retention. Mix of bubble sizes, which I realize is the sort of info everyone wanted to know about this beer. The aroma is a mix of hops with some gentle caramel malt and a dose of yeastiness. The hops smell of apricots, tangerines, juniper, grapefruit. Pretty fruity. The taste is relatively dry. The yeast presence is pretty strong and helps to bring out the bitterness of the beer, which is still quite mild, relative to the style. Bready malt, in the background but still present enough. Mouthfeel is light with gentle effervescence. Finish is long and lightly bitter with grapefruit pith. The beer is fun but too mild. The hops aren't terribly juicy, and the yeast is too neutral to come in and save the day. Still, it's fun to try a French take on the style. To be fair, there definitely could be an issue of freshness, but I am drinking this beer fairly soon after my local store received it.

On tap at Moeder Lambic 4/22/2013. Brewed in December, now appears a one-off but might be repeated. Murky amber brown with a big head that dissipates eventually to a ring and cap with gobs of sticky lacing.
Nose is strong of malt, hops, and tropical fruits.
Tastes like a west-coast version of a triple. A substantial malt bill balances the hops. There has to be some 3 C's in this one. Slightly harsh from the malt and hop concentration. Also rather sweet as triples are, but balanced by the hop bitterness.
Body is medium and carbonation is lightly fizzy enough to cleanse the palate and finishes clean.
It is an interesting aggressively hopped fruity beer from France that is worth a try.
