I love this place! Great atmosphere, great selection. You can't go wrong, one of the best bars in Reading.

This place is great.
16 taps, almost all micro-craft beers (they occasionally have a macro craft or two, but as of this righting there are none of the Bud Miller Coors on draft, they do carry bottles though if you are jonesing for a Light American Lager.)
The food is always solid. I've come to appreciate the price for the quality. Some of their entrees are a bit over-priced, but consistently their sandwiches and food is worth what you pay for and more. All of it is well made.
The servers are all friendly and fairly knowledgeable. They'll also, with rare exception, pour you a taster before you decide what to have.
Would definitely recommend this place.

Located in the nice shopping/eating area of West Reading, the West Reading Tavern is a real gem!
Atmosphere: A nice old-school feel to it. Big red door on the outside with sort of an English cottage look to it. Narrow bar area gives way to a full dining room in the back. Plenty of friendly people around makes it a very friendly feeling place. Seems like they have a good bit of "regulars". One TV that is usually on CNN when I am there. You can get comfortable in a hurry.
Quality: The food is prepared fresh and it's really good. Beers are served in their proper glassware. Full liquor. Everything is done very well.
Service: I have had the same bartender on all my visits. She is always on point, as well as very friendly and engaging. Knows a lot about the beers. My service has always been great.
Selection: 16 beers on tap with local micros (Spring House, Stoudt's, etc) mixed with a couple standard beers (Miller, etc). They even have a house beer called Dun Wurkyn that's brewed by Lancaster Brewing Company. Good stuff all-around.
Food: The food is all made from scratch and is really good. Soups, salads, sandwiches, and all the way up to full-blown entrees. I admittedly have only eaten there once, but I will be sampling more of the menu very soon.
Value - The prices are pretty much right where they should be. Food and beer won't break the bank.
Overall I give the WRT an A+. Every time I have been there has been a very enjoyable experience. If you're in the Reading area, definitely stop in for a few pints!

I've been a regular customer of the West Reading Tavern for years, and was pleasantly surprised by their recent decision to upgrade the tap system from 6 to 16 beers. The draft selection [as of this writing] includes some micro-brewed Winter Warmers, IPAs, and Belgians (Leffe and St. Fueillien). Their bottle selection also includes Val Dieu, though could benefit from some enhancement.
The atmosphere is great (there's a wood-burning fireplace in the bar) and the decor is "English inspired Countryside Pub - 101". The Tavern has a full liquor license and also offers standard rail mixed drinks and wines.
The food has been consistently excellent for many years - I often order crab cakes, clam bakes (in the summer months), and veal, when I'm in the mood for a full meal. They serve hot, fresh-out-of-the-oven bread with dinner entrees, which is really good.
Their cheeseburgers are super-good, too, and are always a favorite, as is the chili.
WRT is my favorite bar in "The Greater Reading Area".
