Summer Pale AleSummer Pale Ale

Brewed by:
The Bronx Brewery
New York, United States

Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
This seasonal pale ale was inspired by our brewer Damian's years living in Germany drinking Radler style beers. An easy-drinking brew with a playful lemon finish makes this a perfect beer for those hot summer days in the city - beachside, poolside or streetside. Cheers to drinking weather!

Had this beer on tap at Superstar Beverage in Huntington. Purchased a 16oz after sampling.

Poured into a pint glass.

Nice 2 finger bone white head, nice lacing but not much stickiness.. fell down pretty quick.

Smell wasn't too overwhelming. Citrus and malt smell with a dot of hops thrown in there.

Taste was very smooth, crisp and refreshing. Light citrus bit malty semi light mouthfeel. Finishes clean with a good crispness and refreshness to it.

Overall a damn good summer ale... mixes well with there style and well balanced. So frigging drinkable and would highly recommend as a BBQ or outside drinking beer.

Refreshing summer beer. Hints of lemon without being a lemonade-like shady. Had on tap in NYC and it hit the spot much better than the Sam Adams Summer Ale I had the night before. More fizz to it without the tartness.

Decanted from a 12 oz can into a Weissbier glass; no production date.
A: Pours a hazy, golden color with robust head creation and at least a one inch head. Modest lacing.
S: Aromas of yeast and fresh bread with a subtle lemon citrus and grassy notes.
T: Slightly spicy. Mostly follows the components of nose, although lemon and herbal flavors are stronger. Not lemony like some summer ales; lemon note blends naturally with other flavors Modest bitterness, creating a crisp, spicy finish.
M: Light to medium bodied. Refreshing without feeling too light. A little creamier than many pale ales. Robust effervescence.
O: Really a refreshing summer pale ale. This subtle use of lemon is really an improvement over similarly styled offerings, e.g. Sam Adam's Summer. I could easily envision drinking/serving this on summer days. I have really remained impressed by Bronx Brewery's inventive offerings.

The Bronx Brewery "Summer Pale Ale"
12 fl. oz. can, no production code or freshness dating
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: Nice looking can. Good colors. 32 IBUs... ? Oh yeah, that's right, it's a pale ale not just a "summer ale". Lemon peel, I wonder if it's fresh or dried. Surprisingly hazy. Very hazy, in fact, almost cloudy. Short head of white doesn't seem to want to hold. Small spots and some larger streaks of lacing are left behind. OK, on to the aroma. Malty, grainy and a touch toasty with some citrus that does express lemon. Slightly spicy and herbal/tea-like as well. The flavor follows and it's a good blend, kind of like lemon in iced tea. Normally I'd think that the lemon would fit better in a straightforward golden malt, rather than this richer, grainy and toasty one, but it works. 32 IBUs, yep, they come through right in the middle, stiffly, and then linger into the drying finish where the lemon remains, lingering. Wow, I like this a lot better than I thought I would. There are plenty of lemon beers out there but there's something a little unique about this one. It's more like the lemon is submersed in the beer rather than floating on top, if that makes any sense to you. Very nicely balanced between the sweetish grainy malt and the refreshing quality of the lemon before finishing with just enough bitterness to keep it 'a serious beer'. I'd highly recommend it. Great summer beer.

Draft. Pours hazy orange with fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of citrusy hops, tropical fruit and caramel malt. Body is medium and crisp. Herbal hops, bready malt and ripe fruit fill the mouth. Finish is long and dry. Very good brew.

Appearance: pours a light orange color with a 1" head.

Smell: very little aroma here as some fruitiness is all that I could detect.

Taste: grainy malt base with some soft lemon tones, sweet green grapes, and a mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp throughout.

Overall: an easy to drink and refreshing beer to drink on a hot day.

Beachside, poolside, streetside.
Drink this in City Island. Drink this in Mott Haven. Drink this at Orchard Beach.
Down this near a gushing hydrant, or walking towards a chuchifritos.
Walkin' around with the cops around, hot on the streets, in the air all buzzing & so vibrant it's as if you can't even see things right in front of you.
But you can smell the maltiness & toastiness, front-and-center, which gives off a winter ale vibe.
Then the lemon takes over.
A thick wedge as if squeezed by the hand of God, invading the finish of the beer, like a slice of sunlight hitting your forehead, burning & hieroglyphic.
Pair it with a sharp cheddar or a mild salami. Pair it with slice of pork.
Let it be the sweet in the sweet-n-salty. Let it flicker between aromatic & bitter.
Let it be a pale ale that wants to be a radler.
Let it want to hide inside with the AC on, but instead find itself outside on the streets.
Slim & lissome, silently tart. It brings you into summer & makes you stay there.

On draft at Tap and Barrel, Smithtown, NY

Poured a light hazy brassy hue with a two finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a light grassy hop and faint ester.

The taste consisted a sharp grassy hop, a soapy citrus flavor and light fruity ester.

The mouthfeel was toward the fuller side of the style with a vegetable like aftertaste. Finished dry.

Overall a light bodied estery pale ale.

1/2 growler purchased at Peekskill NY's Beverage world this afternoon.

Pours clouded lighter tangerine almond. Under a moderate light tan head, fine film and lace and thin collar.

Ripe fruit sweetness on the nose.

I get some melon, herbal hops and mild citrus on the palate.

Decent if unspectacular summery pale ale. Would work fine with a summer helping of cheese, salad and crusty bread
