BEER INFO

Brewed by:
The Bronx Brewery
New York, United States
thebronxbrewery.com

Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
This seasonal pale ale was inspired by our brewer Damian's years living in Germany drinking Radler style beers. An easy-drinking brew with a playful lemon finish makes this a perfect beer for those hot summer days in the city - beachside, poolside or streetside. Cheers to drinking weather!

05/28/14 On tap. Sorry Bronx guys, but the word 'subtle' used in your description is misappropriated. The citrus may be subtle, but whatever lends the piney notes here might have had a lullaby as an intent but left a nightmare of "Mommy Dearest" proportions. (Well not quite, but I was looking to impress on the 0-100 discrepancy). Just as we all hope that the proverbial "long cold winter" yield to more a amicable climate, so I did wish for the harsh elements in this pint give way to something more...more...actually less 'distinctive'. Less can often be more.

On tap at the Strand. Served in a mason jar so hard to judge the appearance.

I can pretty much sum this beer up the same for each category which is to say nothing was distinctive. No aroma, taste was of a faint ale with no discernible character. Mouthfeel ok.

It's a summer ale so I reckon they went for something lightish but c'mon give me some citrus or something.

A: cloudy; breass colored; 1 finger pillowy white head that receded quickly to a ring around the edge of the glass;

S: lemon and light malts;

T: lemon rind from start to finish; minimal bitterness;

M: light to medium bodied; moderate carbonation; crisp;

O: one note - lemon rind; I like bitterness in my beer, but the bitterness in this wasn't pleasing;

DATE: October 1, 2017... OCCASION: the last of the summer stuff, with a nice day of Scouts and football only partly ruined by the Browns... GLASSWARE: Abita pint... pours a murky, blurry orange amber body whose opaqueness doesn't shield its swirling sediment from the eye... unfortunately, the head dissipates swiftly--so much so, I missed it... there's nothing left but an off-color swirl... lemon zest, grapefruit, slight resin and reasonable aromatic flowers--bright and alluring... the malts are subtle... first sip is malty, with its presence at the throat... light at the teeth, with a liveliness attempting to force through an oily constitution... grapefruit and lemon are the targeted fruits in the profile, with back-end malts providing a butter-breaded softness... their summer aim being met, this might not be one to reach for beyond the season....

Not bad, for sure, but the lemon peel does not come through at all. I am a big fan of summer beers, and enjoy most of them most years, but this one feels...plain. Definitely does not stand out from the crowd.
