Beautiful and delicate taste that delivers a friendly sourness and fond sweetness upon a stern body of Belgian fruity, spicy golden strong ale is suggestive of an ale that's meant for quick consumption. But deceptively smooth, its power within will prove otherwise.
Shot to the Tart pours with a light mauve and golden hue. Light on head character, the aromas of green and red cherries spring right to the nose, along with a tinge of spicy white pepper, vinous wine-like nuances and accompanying tart and tangy fruit. Wafer-thin and light of honey, the beer's malty upstart is finnesse and quickly cowers to the fruit and oak character that trails closely behind.
Across the middle, the beer favors more of the oak, acidity and fruit over that of malt or the delicate fruit and spice balance that's common to authentic Belgian versions. But the star of the show is the cherry- caught somewhere between robust black cherry and under-ripened green varieties, the fruit-forward flavor is accessorized with clove, cinnamon, coriander and white pepper. Like white zinfindale wine, the beer's semi-sweet taste counters with pepper, vinous tartness and oak dryness.
Medium-bodied, the juiciness of montgomery cherries whets the whistle and resists any fade to absolute dryness. Spicy, dry with peppery oak, and with the slimmest of bitterness, the ale's fresh oak flavors offer a woodsy closure with lingering cherry soda.
