The New World Tavern is a nice addition to the Plymouth bar scene. The tavern is open and airy, but almost has a feeling of being too clean and sterile. Perhaps it is due to the carpets and the new smell of the place. It moreso felt that I was drinking in a refurbished basement than a bar. If that is your thing--which is not bad, this is your place. The wait staff was knowledgeable and courteous. They checked in several times and were very understanding of children. I really cannot say enough about the staff. Very professional. I really do not feel as though I can grade the food as all I had was the French fries, which were ok. The dishes that were brought out looked tasty. I do hope to eat there in the near future and will update this review then. As for the drinks there are thirty two taps. Several of the taps were devoted to local beer—Mayflower, Blatant, Cisco—among others. There were also several taps from far away—21st Amendment and Allagash jumped out. Most of the beers were around $7. The selection was above average, but there was surprisingly few beers on tap that I could not easily get from a package store down the street. The New World Tavern is in its infancy stages. I will be curious to see how this evolves. If the taps rotate and newer beers are brought in, this has the chance to challenge Rose Alley and Union as a place to drive to on the south shore. If not, it merely remains the best beer bar in Plymouth. Either way, it is certainly worth a stop.

Edit on 12-12

Upping the marks on several levels on this bar. Went back to NWT today. The taps are rotating frequently and offering better selections. Saw several more quality beers on tap--Brooklyn Concoction and Lagunitas Sucks stood out. Prices are still reasonable and service still excellent. This rivals Union as the south shore's best bar, and at least for me saves a lot of driving. Really warming to this place--especially as a grab a quality brew after work bar.

I live in Plymouth, and have been here about five times. Every time I have gone, they have had a great selection, and the staff is knowledgeable. They also have the macro stuff that my wife likes. Great live music in the back some nights too. Can get very crowded.

This place is such a huge place for being on Main Street in Plymouth, MA! The decorations are all beer related; The walls have a plethora of Tap Handles and Placards for Beer Club High Achievers!!! The selection of beer here is out of this world, If I recall correctly it is sitting close to 153 different beers in bottle and about 30 on tap at any given time!

Now onto the food! This place was featured on Phantom Gourmet and for anyone who has ever seen it, You know their food has got to be top notch! I adore the Fried Calamari with the Garlic Aioli Sauce and all the burgers are amazing paired with a great brew and hand cut waffle fries!

The service here is fast, friendly and knowledgeable! From beer flights to odd ball requests such as a non-traditional black and tan (which was amazing if I do say so myself) they accommodate it with pure ease!

If you are in the area you need to stop in and have a blast!

Great Beer, Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere and an always changing sampling of live musical performances!

Very Laid back environment with a huge selection of beer. Over 100 in bottles and about 40 Taps. New beers are rotated in each month. They have an outstanding menu that pairs great with beers. Also they have a "Challenge" where once youve drank 150 unique beers you get your name on a plaque and put on the wall!

Went here on a weekend with Live music. Specifically called and asked if they had a high chair for our little one. When we arrived (Bobby) the bouncer looked at us with two kids and said "It's going to be a while" Now I don't usually look much into this, but I could tell that this guy wanted nothing to do with kids. Long story short, this is definitely not a kid friendly place.

We did put our name in and grabbed drinks from the bar. We only had one couple in front of us so it wasn't a big deal. Actually it was. If you go here on the weekend and the place is full, don't bother waiting for a table. Tons of people plop themselves at a table and just order drinks to listen to the music. Which I get, I've been there. But you have an entire back room dedicated for music, why not put the band and the people back there so people can get tables and order food?

So after 30 minutes, I strolled around to the back area and noticed a table that was open. I went back to Bobby, he said it was "reserved". Now when I had called earlier, they don't take call ahead or reservations. I shrugged and we continued to wait. I then had to use the facilities and noticed that people were now sitting at the table. Considering we were next, I decided to ask him what happened. He stated some people just grabbed drinks and decided to sit down but agreed to leave in a hour when the party showed up. Really? So lesson learned (not that I will be back) its a free for all with the tables don't bother putting your name in.

Constructively, the do have an extensive draft list. The sad part it isn't that good. More crap on tap, than good beer. I was hard pressed to find a decent IPA at the place. Their taplister was out of date as well. I don't expect it to be perfect but when there are 5 beers on there that according to the bartender have been kicked "days ago" you are wasting my time.

Long story short, there are better options out there. Especially in Plymouth.

Great spot ,one of the few bars I will actually go to in the area I live in .Great selection of beers with a website that updates the tap list regularly ,32 taps and 110 bottles what's not to like about that. Taps rotate pretty regularly with the seasons but represent all styles and have a good mix of local and world class beers .The staff is both knowledgeable and attentive .The food I've tried is fantastic I've only had a few appetizers ,the braised pork belly on a steamed bun is possibly one of the best things I've ever eaten. If you live in the area or are vacationing in Plymouth you need to go to the New world tavern ...Awesome

My wife and I had a rare evening off and decided to do something new and nice, so we found this place courtesy of BA and some online reviews and decided to check it out. Nice little restaurant on a strip, parking situation wasn't great, but we got lucky and found a nice spot. Kind of a older college which made us feel a little old considering I'm pushing 30. Plenty of bar tables, a decent sized bar and some booths along the edges. Cool beer related paraphernalia all over the place, a top shelf with a ton of tap collections and cool posters, tins, and bar lights. There's a back room that's mostly a stage, but there's a few tables, a sound booth and a small bar for mixed drinks and I think some bottled beer. They do small band performances and comedy acts there.

Quality seemed top shelf classy without the judge mental feeling. Nothing was white, but everything was clean. In addition, the structure was put together well and very orderly.

I think it was an off night where they seemed very understaffed, but the service ended up being very good. When we first arrived it was a seat yourself type place, which I'm fine with, but nobody approached until we went to the bar and had to inquire about menus, drink orders, ext. The Bartender was pretty much running the show and did a good job handling it. Once a few people left he even came up and apologized and explained the situation which we appreciated.

Selection is very good, according to the bartender almost always rotating wether bottle or tap. Had about 40 taps if I remember correctly, a lot of local/regional stuff at the time (Mayflower, Harpoon, Jack's Abby, Opa Opa, The Tap), a fair amount from Boulevard, probably like 4 or 5 ( I only remember Saison Brett and Oak Aged Porter, but there were a few more), plenty of others as well. Nothing super rare, but pretty well thought out. Bottle selection was huge, probably 150 different all together both local, national and imports. Saw some Cisco (even Island reserve), Baxter, Harpoon, Smuttynose, Abita, Founders, plenty of imports like Fuller's, Sams Smith, Mikkeller, some Belgian bottles and what looked like some sours too (sorry not my thing so I really can't remember).

Food was really good, we got some appetizers and split an entree, but it was all really good and fresh. What other people around us looked really good too. They had better than average pub grub and plenty of comfort style food as well, slightly classed up. Pricing was pretty reasonable for what you get. Worth a trip or a visit if you're in the area.

Held a reunion of townie friends on a Saturday at this wonderful bar and can’t say enough good about it. In the space that once housed the Guru as well as a brewpub and Puritan Clothing (where my parents used to buy all of our school clothes), New World Tavern has plenty of room for large parties and a nice, long bar with plenty of taps. They’ve kept the backroom music area that Guru created, and I’m glad because it’s a great place to see live bands.

Beer selection was stellar, with many local breweries as well as some of the best national and international breweries represented. I spent the night drinking such beer geek delights as Dark Horse Perkolator, Bear Republic Racer X and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Despite these excellent choices, this is not a place for pretentious beer snobbery. In fact, I got the impression that the owner is taking great pains to respect the customers as much as the beers.

Service was outstanding. The server had no qualms about waiting on first four of us then twenty of us. He never left anyone waiting for a beer, and was extremely knowledgeable about both the beers on tap and beers in general. Once he understood I was a beer geek, he switched gears and let me know about the rare stuff that was available. When we tried ordering a couple of beers that were gone, he quickly produced an updated list for our table—definitely the first time I’ve seen that happen.

The menu consisted of pub fare—burgers, chicken, steak tips, chowder, etc. Most everyone ordered the burgers, and everyone was more than happy with their meals. The entrée menu looked good, and I will return to try it.

I had originally intended to have everyone go to at least a couple of other bars in the downtown Plymouth area, but everyone agreed that there was no reason to leave, and we spent the whole of our evening here. The final bill was pleasantly small, and I will definitely be returning in the future. Nice to see a place this well done this far from Boston.

I really want to like the New World Tavern more than I do. During their soft open phase, my girlfriend and I came here for drinks and dinner 4 times. The beer list looked good; most of the regulars you'd expect at a decent beer bar and a few pleasant surprises. The food the first time was quite good. The second time I ordered something new while my girlfriend ordered the same thing she had on the previous visit 2 days before. Right away we noticed the fries were prepared differently as was her meal. Since it was the soft open, we assumed the kitchen was fine tuning their menu before the actual opening. And we assumed that each time we went back and things were prepared differently. After the grand opening however, we were still noticing changes in the meals. It's really not a big complaint but it's hard when you find something you like and want to have again but you know it will be different. The service here is great. Our servers are always attentive without being pushy. Knowledgeable but they won't bullsh** you if they don't know they product. Instead they'll ask someone who does and report back to you. This is a great approach. As far as the overall vibe of this place... I really don't know. It's hard for me to put my finger on it but it just doesn't connect with me. I could be way off but it has the feel of a place run by businessmen as opposed to food/craft beer enthusiasts. In my experience if the ownership/management has a love for what they're doing and the product they're selling then it shines through. I just don't get much of that shine from New World Tavern.

Me and the girlfriend went here on a gorgeous saturday early afternoon to grab a pint and food. As soon as we walked in we were graciously greeted and selected a seat at our own disgression. The prices are very reasonable considering they have an extensive selection of draught and bottled beer. The food was great! Very fresh. The beer was excellent! I had one of my fav's Southern Tier 2x IPA on draught. Very hard to find on draught. Very relaxed setting as well. Not crowded but even if it was there is plenty of room to enjoy.

This is one of those situations where I almost do not wish to praise this tavern because then it will become crowded.

Service of flights or samplers is very well-done. I haven't seen better.

Food is not the norm. Not gastropub but not the average bar menu. Food is brought hot and the waits are not long. The bar is sometimes slower than the kitchen.

Great beer menu and selection.

Despite the music I enjoy every visit. Dialing it down would make me feel more welcome.

I am a beer guy not a bar guy. I go for the beer and the food.

Carl, one of the owners, has a great sense of humor.

Their website could become more helpful but it does its job.

The owners are always there and willing to talk beer with great passion. The food is upscale pub food prepared with great care. The tap list hits everyone with no crap (ie BMC) on tap and a bottle list that geneously represents every style. This is a great place with live music on the weekends. Plymouth center is lucky to have such a great new surge of great beer focused bars.

Went to this pub at the end of a tour of Mayflower.

Located about a block away from "the rock". Parking wasn't a problem but it is street in front or a garage about another block away.

Decor was surprisingly classy for Plymouth. Tasteful beer posters, nice lighting. Clean serving area and bathrooms.

The bar had about 20 taps and a fridge of bottles. Prices were in the 7 and below range. Selection was pretty good. A few imports and a great selection of craft brews (mostly New England). Beer was served in proper glasses.

Food was standards for pubs with some interesting sandwiches. All of it was a good quality.

Wait staff was attentive but not overbearing.

Overall I would highly recommend for a good experience in an area that needs a good craft brew bar.

Visited last week w/ a couple friends. Very easy to locate among the many shops and restaurants in downtown Plymouth.
Walk in to a bustling little pub with limited space. 15 or so tables in mixed shapes and sizes plus a bar that seats a dozen or so. Tables are first come, first serve so we were forced to stand near a table that appeared to be leaving soon. The server was extremely slow to grab their bill, so we waited about 15 minutes longer than necessary. Because of this, one of us went to the bar and ordered 3 pints so we could enjoy a beer while we hover around the high-top. Draft list was solid with a nice variety of styles represented. Went with the Troegs Scratch 52, which was served in a standard pint glass and non-chilled. 32 draft lines if I recall correctly with many NE brews being offered up. Blatant, Clown Shoes, Pretty Things, Wachusett, Berkshire, Opa-Opa. Plenty of options. A couple coolers behind the bar well stocked with bottles too. Didn't get a close enough look to spot more than some Boulevard 750ml's. No clue on their prices either. I suggest they put a price list at your table.
Once the table opened up, the waitress came over to clean up, which was basically one swipe to remove water rings from two pint glasses, yet she seemed annoyed that we were standing around the table...um, it is open seating so we have no choice.
Either way, she was back shortly w/ menus and silverware. Great looking menu with plenty of variety without spreading themselves thin w/ offerings. We ordered the pretzel bites w/ 3 diff. sauces (maple mustard, caramel and one other mustard). Maple mustard was awesome. Ordered the Chicken Bahn Mi - marinated chicken w/ peanut sauce, cilantro, jalapenos and picked veggies for my meal and they were outstanding. Came with unique lotus root chips, super thin and crisp. Again, very good. Friends had the buffalo burger and mac and cheese, both also fantastic.
Server was (again), less than thrilled to wait on us for some reason. Everyone has an off night and I'll chalk it up to that. The one other server there seemed very pleasant.
It was odd that a band rolled in @ 7pm or so and started playing in a larger space in the back. There was no one back there for the most part, so it was just noise coming thru the restaurant and no real announcement on who was playing in the place. I am hoping folks worked their way back to be entertained. We were in and out in an hour and will certainly be back on my next trip to the South Shore. A great addition to the area.

Second time at this place and its starting to grow on me. I wish they carried more local beers. Only 1 Mayflower on tap, 1 Smuttynose, no White Birch, no Pretty Things. Maybe its just my personal preference but I feel like a lot of great New England brews get overlooked here in favor of some obscure imports. Im also of the school of thought that every bar in New England should have Gansett on tap but thats just me (The bock is outstanding). Of course everybody compares this place to the Brewhouse in Weymouth, but I feel like the Brewhouse goes more out on a limb when it comes to their draft selection i.e. when I go to the Brewhouse I know Im going to try something I havent seen in a store or another bar before. The bar does feel a little sterile. $6 for a pint is a little on the high end for me. The 5 4oz. pour for $10 sampler is a great idea. I like the food but for a bar where youre sampling and tasting beer there are some strong flavors on there...truffles, spicy peanut sauces etc. Other than that, I think this place sets itself apart because its not like TBones or Main Street, Im not going to run into the "bar scene" type people you normally would at those other places. I think the ownership has done a great job in stating who they are; more upscale and about the quality of their products, whether it be beer or food. Im glad theres no $2 draft option here. Downtown Plymouth needed a place like this where the people who appreciate quality and have outgrown the frat-boy bar scene with Jager bombs can go and relax, try some good beers and hang out. Definately going to be part of the regular rotation with the lady.

Went for an app and a few beers late Saturday afternoon; so not very busy. Attractive pub with a bar down the left, with perhaps 15 seats, tables in the remainder of the large room, with another room way down back where bands perform, which indeed has it's own bar; not in use during my visit.
Bartender was very nice, and very attentive. He had decent to good beer knowlegge, learned on the job, but was spot on when I asked about the hop level in various IPA's.
They had 30 drafts and many more bottles. Most beers were local, and were priced $6 to $7 per pint, a little pricey, but not horrible. The selection of Mass. brewers was good, but as a result, not the greatest IPA selection in my book, unless you go to bottles. I had a draft Great Divide Oak Aged IPA that was pretty good, then a local IPA by Opa-Opa, then a bottle of Green Flash West Coast.
No saisons on draft, to pick a complaint, and no killer IPA's, but all in all, I liked the place and will go back. They claim to rotate drafts often, and I have no reason to doubt them. It's great to have another craft beer spot south of Boston; as you know there aren't many.

I was so excited to hear about this place opening! A new craft beer place here on the South Shore and this one is different. A large, intelligent, and great beer selection. With some great national craft brews and a ton of Mass brews! If you are a beer lover in or visiting the Plymouth area this is the place to stop for a brew!!

The food was better than we expected. The hummus plate with the pumpkin hummus was great! My burger was good. I will say I asked for it to be medium and it was on the well side of medium-well....my wife had the grilled cheese. It tasted great, but was a little greasy. But overall it was better than your average pub food...closer to gourmet and I am sure that over the next few months the food will improve.

Back to the beers real quick! The selection had over 30 drafts and 100 bottles. NO BMC!!! YAY! I would guess that about 3/4 of the draft list was local/regional. This is great!! Too many places say they have a craft beer selection, but have just the larger breweries, but it was awesome to get beers from Slum Brew, Pretty Things, Mayflower, BHB, and other eastern Mass Breweries. Please keep the locals on tap!

I really recommend this place for any craft beer lover on the South Shore and anyone visiting Plymouth!!

A. Great. Comfortable place. Sharp clean and not too bright. Staff is friendly. Owners are very enthusiastic. Pumped to have this place on the South Shore.
Q.Proper glassware. Enough said. Good bottle selection.
S.Attentive. Knowledgeable. Accurate.
S.32 taps 50+ bottles. Bottles I have ordered have been fresh. Draft lines are new so obviously clean. I believe they will stay that way.
F. Great selection, reminds me of the Publick House. Enjoyed mostly the apps so far. Quality and care is evident.
V.Not cheap, not over priced. What I expect for my money.

Decided to switch up the locale for a coworker meetup and everyone was really excited to try this place. We all met up around 5pm. Parking was kind of a nightmare downtown but its right before XMas so I guess it would usually be better. We were able to easily push together a few tables to accommodate our group of 12. There are some sofa type seats along the wall and probably 20 seats at the bar and probably 8 tables total. The crowd was a pretty good mix of younger and older and everyone seemed to be at least trying some of the craft offerings. I think we had one person in our group that opted for Mich Ultra but other than that everyone was taking chances and enjoying their beers. The lighting was nice and kept fairly dim. The acoustics are a little off and it got a bit noisy as the crowd grew. This is probably due to the tin ceilings in the place and the thus far sparse decorations on the walls.

We ordered up a cheese plate and a dried meat plate along with some olives and pretzel knots. I believe the meat and cheese plates were each $14. All of the food was delicious and beautifully presented though it did take a bit long to arrive. Not sure if this was the kitchens fault or our servers. The place was pretty busy and I think it was too much for the two servers that were there. Maybe someone called in sick or maybe it usually isnt that busy but regardless we waited for service quite a few times with empty glasses and new people joining our table sometimes waited up to 10 minutes before we saw our server again. But she was really friendly and knowledgeable about the different beers and was really good with her recommendations based on peoples tastes.

I/We will definitely be going back to this place. There has been talk of moving our every other week happy hour to this location which, as a craft beer lover, thrills me. Hopefully they can get some more staff in there to help things move a bit better during the busy times. I will revisit my review if I find the service is better during future visits.

Tried it out with a few friends last night and we loved it.

With the New World Tavern being 25 miles south of the Union Brew House people like myself who live on the deep south shore or upper Cape Cod can now enjoy a true Craft Beer Bar right in our backyard.

Plenty of Beers and Appetizer to choose from Basically something for all tastes.

Taste and Quality of the food was good with a definite upscale spin on them...which I did not know could be done with a pretzel plate or grilled cheese. They pulled it off though.

No time right now to get into detail on either...but I do recommend you go and try them out for yourself.

One must try is the Nitrogen Ice Cream Dessert.

It will make you crack a smile....literally.

Another good beer bar on the South Shore! 32 taps (no BMC) with a good mix of New World and Old World and 100+ bottles. Had a Rince Cochon, Blatant IPA and a Dale's. Every beer in the proper glass. The owners are on site and eager to please. Very spacious layout, good lighting and music. Decor is a little sparse for now, but I'm sure they'll be adding stuff from various breweries in time. When the function room opens, the place will rock. Definitely worth checking out!

Didn't try any food, but nearby eaters seemed happy. Menu might be a bit ambitious. Lots of truffles, no salads. Fish "in" Chips (Allagash and Kettle Chip batter) sounds interesting.
