Sodbuster Porter is a beautifully balanced, robust beer that pours black with a thick tan head. Dominated by coffee, chocolate, roast, and faint hints of smoke; this porter is rich and full on the palate, providing you with the fortitude to make it through North Dakota winters.
“Sodbuster wraps you in comfort like a warm blanket on a winter night. I just want to crawl inside and take a nap.”

Pours dark with a head that fades quickly. Smells of roasted malt and English ale yeast. Bittersweet chocolate battles vinegar for dominance on the palate. Fairly thin, vinegary finish. Hopefully this is a bad can of beer and does not represent their finished product.

Undated 12 oz. can purchased at Happy Harry's in Fargo, ND on 8/19/17. Poured into Belgian ale glass.
L: 1F+ light tan head. OK retention, spotty lacing, thin cap and ring. Beer is as dark as can get.
S: Pretty nice. Dark roasted malts and unsweetened chocolate.
T: Roasted to burnt malts. A little bit of coffee to go with the unsweetened chocolate. Slight bitterness on finish. This is actually quite good.
F: Light to medium body, moderate carbonation (maybe a little too much). Construction and balance are good.
O: Quite decent porter.

Fargo Brewing Sodbuster Porter, 6.1% ABV, IBU 29. Pours black and thin with 2 fingers of tan head that dissipated quickly, leaving slight lacing. Nose and taste are roasty malt and coffee. Not very bitter. Good mouthfeel, overall a pretty decent beer. You could pass this off as a non-imperial coffee stout.

L: A nice rich brown, no head or lacing.
S: nice roastiness, but verges on burnt. No notes that I can pick up.
T: theres a nice almond meal flavor, but the porter roastiness really comes off as burnt in this one.
F: exceedingly thing. none of the creaminess of a strong porter.
O: a finely drinkable example of the style, but nothing you want to think too deeply about.

Underwhelming flavor profile, not bad but a little boring compared to other porters

Not bad, nothing wrong with it, just that it's been done like this many, many times before. Aroma and flavor are similar and dominated by cocoa and a little coffee, A little bitter in the finish. Easy drinking brew.
