Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The most powerful IPA in the Due South Category series, the Cat 5 is big on hops and big on flavor. Clocking in at 8.5% ABV and 96 IBU’s, the first bands of malts will make way for the surge of hops on the palate. Designed for the true hophead, this is not a beer for the faint of heart.

Cloudy look, amber with orange highlights and a dirty white cap of foam. Smells bright and danky but fades over time after opening. Taste has plenty of bitter hop to bite on. Good amount of alcohol and you can taste it. That gets +points in my book.

Good stuff to over-indulge on and pull a Florida Man or perhaps a Rodney King (the swimming pool or the LA incident)

I was looking forward to this beer after trying Category 3 first, and it didn't disappoint.
12 oz can poured into a glass.
Distinct hoppy flavor punch right up front, with a nice citrusy finish.
I highly recommend this beer.

12 oz can with "canned on" dating

Pours heavily hazed dark orangy amber, and leaving a load of fine lacing all up and down the glass.

Softly citric nose with grapefruit, pineapple, mango and general fruity goodness.

This is a big and bold, fresh tasting "imperial" IPA (according to the can), loaded with more citric fruits and hoppy goodness.

Pleasingly carbonated and easy flowing in the mouth. All in all a terrific brew. Happy to see more and more quality craft created in Florida.

Grapefruit nose. Very fruity and malty taste. Mostly smooth with slight bitterness left on the tongue. Overall a solid IPA. I'd love to compare to category 3
