Picked up a half-liter at the local grocery store for $1.19. I've never heard of the brewery before. Franziskaner goes for $1.89 a bottle at the same store.

Pours a cloudy brown, instead of the orange color prominent in other hefes. A nice, foamy white head that doesn't last as long as I expected.

Nice banana aroma and a full, fruity taste with very low hoppiness. A sweet, grainy finish with moderate carbonation. An excellent mouthfeel, just the right consistency to coat the mouth and linger after each drink. This bottle won't last long.

One of the best values I've seen, and I factored that into the ratings above. If it were the same price as Fanz. or Weisensteph., I would have rated it slightly lower.

This hefe pours a cloudy yellow, with a nice frothy head that sticks around. It smells very, very sweet and citrusy, with hints of pear and green apple. The taste is good. It has a bit of cloves, prominent banana and a little bit of bubble-gum taste. The mouthfeel is a bit thin. Overall, this is a very good hefe--it does not stand out from others too much, however it this is a very solid beer.

A: Poured a hazy golden orange color, off tan head.

S: Fresh banana bread on nose.

T: Light and fruity, creamy bread palate and flavor with some cloves. Light carbonation that still brings out the spices and yeast flavor nicely. Nice complexity.

M: creamy mouthful. Spicy phenols finish this beer out with some fruity tones.

D: Great drinkability, big flavor and another great example per style. Overall a definite recommend.

New at Aldi and a great price at $6.30 a six-pack. Bottled Nov. 16, 2016. Poured into my Libbey Weizen glass.

L -- Hazy golden peach color with a dense white head.

S -- Light DMS, clove, mild banana and light wheat graininess --light aromas overall.

T -- Mellow fresh bread yeastiness, light clove, light citrus character, all in great symphony if not a little more mellow than some other Weizens. There's a light graininess in the finish and aftertaste and spicy clove with light citrus in the aftertaste.

F -- Mouthfeel is typical Weizen; soft and fluffy with a medium-light body.

O -- A great bargain, if not the best Weizen on shelves, but highly satisfying if you're scratching that Weizen itch.

Best by 7/26/13.

Pours a murky dark honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, fermented banana, and some earthy spice aromas. Taste is much the same with a distinct caramel covered banana flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp but slightly medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that tastes better than it smells in my opinion.

From Hipercor, in sale. In Paulaner glass. Playing Memoria. Its body seems bigger than in the typical hefeweizen. Really good in its style, with great aroma and flavor. Avg 4.3

17 May 2017. In Bavaria glass. New label. At lunch, after futsal match, with omelette. Not as great as I remembered, with a lighter and smoother body and less taste, although still pleasant

500ml bottle

Appearance: cloudy orange, builds a 2-3 finger head that leaves some lacing. Intense carbonation.

Smell: banana, cloves, wheat, fruity and spicy.

Taste: strong banana flavour backed up by a spicy wheaty aftertaste. Maybe other fruit is in there. It's more tasty and sweeter than Schofferhofer Hefe, for example.

Mouthfeel: pretty intense due to the carbonation and more boozy than I'd expected. Medium bodied.

Overall: I really liked it. Simple and effective, well balanced, not light nor overly sweet.

This brew pours with a vast amount of carbonation and produces a good light tan head, which is a little over two fingers thick. The body of this brew is golden and of course, hazy.

The aromas in this weizen are that of orange rind, some ginger, and a snap of regular flavor bubble gum.

This tastes a bit more than a typical Hefe. It has more of a bubble gum flavor to it, more so than an orangish hint.

This has a mellow smoothness, somewhat a melt in your mouth feeling. This is very quenching as well.

This brew goes down great and quickly. Not too bad to finish a warm day off with.

Poured carefully into a pils glass it forms a huge creamy loose head that has amazing staying power. Tons of fine carbonation play a supporting role. Yellow body with some copper towards the core. The appearance is very appetizing and the crowned mountainous head is a sight to see, like a lump of mashed potatoes sitting atop on a float.

After the head settled a bit I went in for a closer inspection. First whiff had me thinking of Weihestenphaner Hefe, a world class Hefe by most standards. The fruit bill is dominant and can be somewhat syrupy sweet at times. The wheat profile is also rather large for a Hefe. A big Hefe? this seems to fit the bill and it works well. Subtle spices give this a bit of a backbone. Bready malts tend to minimize the clove presence.

Notes: While its rich and deep it is a bit too sweet for my palate and some more spices would have been welcomed.

500 ml bottle - poured into a weizen glass.

Pours golden with a large, pillowy white head that settles to a hazy cover, leaving minimal spots of lacing.

The smell is of banana/clove with wheat tang.

The taste is banana/clove - plenty of clove. As it progresses, the clove diminishes giving way to wheat tang. If the initial part's characteristics held throughout the duration, I would have enjoyed it more, I'd say. However, as it is it holds its own and has a pleasant enough taste.

A nice, traditional HW.
