Served on tap in a tulip glass
Appearance – The beer is served a clear amber color with a one finger head of white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a little bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is very sweet smell with lots of tropical fruits of tangerine, pineapple, papaya, and mango. Along with these aromas comes some notes of a light brady smell mixed with some hop aromas of grapefruit and herb. Overall quite sweet and inviting.
Taste – The taste begins with a quite bready flavor that is mixed with lots of fruit tastes of tangerine, mango and papaya. Upfront there is a decent showing of a herbal and light grapefruit hop. The herbal hop gets stronger and stronger as the taste moves forward and is joined by some other hop tastes of pine and a touch of earth. All the while the sweetness increases some as flavors of caramel join the tastes profile. A little bit of a waring alcohol tastes joins the flavor profile at the very end and leaving one with a malty and sweet, but nicely hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thick and creamy with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the sweet, hop, and boozy tastes the feel is great and makes for a nice slow but flavorful sipper.
Overall – A big malty and sweet, but well hopped imperial IPA.

Decent DIPA. Served on tap at the restaurant in a tulip. Copper in color, with a finger or so of soft foam. Aromas of pine, grapefruit. Malt forward flavor, with caramel and chewy bread topped with more citrusy goodness and a spruce finish.

Dark with a little head that is off white. Nose is a little hoppy as is taste. Not as hoppy as I’d like or as hoppy as it should be since it is an ipa. Decent beer.

On tap. Pours a golden amber with a decent head that leaves lacing. Nose and taste are both hop dominant with a whiff of wheat that swims under the hop bitterness. Bitter finish on it. Medium body and carbonation, and the alcohol is hidden well enough.
Surprisingly good DIPA from BJ's.

BJ’s Committed Double IPA on tap in Daytona Beach (FL) where I paired it with a Green Flash West Coast IPA.

Similar in appearance, but the BJ's has a notably better head (retention & creaminess), a deeper amber body that may also be slightly clearer, and leaves fuller lacing

Aroma: more citrus and flowers in the GF; more evergreen in the BJ's. Slight preference for the GF.

Flavor: GF is a tad stronger and more bitter, although the BJ's is not lacking. The BJ's reveals some citrus upon tasting; the GF a good bit of evergreen.

Overall: The BJ's does well, keeping up with the BJ's, although those preferring a stronger, more pungent DIPA will probably prefer the Green Flash.

On tap at BJ's in Valencia, CA.

Pours a clear honey gold with a foamy off-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thick rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, and pine needle aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, grapefruit juice, pine needle, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with citrus foward aromas, but pine and earth forward flavors.

Serving type: on tap.

Part of their 2016 seasonal series. 8.6% abv brewed with Columbus, Crystal, Simcoe, Cascade. 95 IBUs. This is a nice DIPA using more ubiquitous old school American hops. Stand this up in a blind taster to any sexier brewery's beer and it would hold its own. Nice job by BJ's. Great fruity, piney, earthy flavors.

(Draft, revisited) at BJs in Valencia, CA (2/25/15) and in Oxnard, CA (2/16/15). Initially scored 4.8. Was just the perfect beer on that night, or the batches are slightly inconsistent, this one is still super good tough, 4.25

3-17-16 (Draft) at BJs, Valencia, CA. Easy and smooth first sip, appropriate bitterness, and very balanced all-around. Not as Earth-shattering as when I first tried it, but very good nonetheless, 4.0

1-13-17 (Draft) at BJs in San Mateo, CA, vinegary hop aroma, malt forward first sip, subsequent sips much the same, good but not at great as previous versions, 3.6
