This traditional seasonal lager has a malty, toasty character with a mild hop bitterness in the finish. Amber in color, medium-bodied and very smooth from a long lagering process.

Pretty color amber, good clarity, full inch of head to it. Solid sheet of lace. Delivered a decent amount of malt, caramel and toffee in the aroma. Some grain aspect too.

Taste was smooth, albeit run of the mill. A little bitter, not too bad. Best thing about it is the appearance. You should have seen this dumpy girl failing out of nursing school for the second time drinking this in between finals. Super desperate and depressing.

On tap at BJ's in Valencia, CA.

Pours a clear orange with a foamy beige head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and slight caramel aromas. Taste is much the same with a slight sweetness. There is a very mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is pretty tasty but basic.

On tap at BJ's Escondido.

A: Burnished dark orange with an inch of white foam. Lots of lacing is left on the glass. Good clarity.

S: Strong alcohol notes with stale bread and evident caramel.

T: Notes of bread and biscuit with a light caramel presence. There's a low bitterness and evident alcohol in the finish.

M: Medium in body with upper medium carbonation.

Overall: A subpar Oktoberfest. The malt profile is pretty simple and alcohol is too strong in the flavor.

Sampled this on-tap at the BJ's Restaurant in San Bernardino, CA about a week ago. Following review composed using notes.

Served in a pilsener glass.

Appearance: Clear copper body show active carbonation. A fine layer of white froth sits on top and drags tons of sticky lace. Nice retention. Impressive, especially for a BJ's offering.

Smell: Clean grains, leafy Noble hops, faint caramel, and a touch of rust are the only aromas I can dig out of this one. The smell might be decent if it was stronger.

Taste: Crackers, caramel, spicy hops, moist vegetation, and light nuttiness. Interesting and well-crafted; flavors meld well, and I don't detect any off-flavors. Nicely done!

Mouthfeel: Light-medium body with moderate-to-high carbonation. A tad prickly, well-balanced, and fairly clean (subtle residual sweetness).

Overall: Surprisingly good - probably the best beer I've had from BJ's! Well worth ordering next time you stop in.

Pours a clear, lightish nut brown. Almost no head and retention is zilch. Smells of caramel malts and a bit of hazelnut. Flavor has caramelized sugars, is lightly nutty, and has a few esters and floral essence. Tastes pretty good actually. Medium to full bodied with a relatively high level of carbonation. While the appearance and mouthfeel were a bit off, this is a pretty tasty and very easy drinking marzen style beer. A good choice if you find yourself at BJ's, which you should if not only for the pizza.
