Dark and tangy in the small tulip. Lots of carbonation in the mouth. Big whiskey aroma. this is the classic boozy barrel-aged stout, except this one's even stronger. A nice tangy and sharp sensation on the tongue, and hot with alcohol.

Black malt flavors with a deep roasted base. This is more of a hoppy shooter than a beer to actually drink, but it's quite tasty firewater. Just enough sweetness, and not overdone on the charred grains. But it still leaves you gasping. On tap at Fifty Seven Degrees.

super creamy, tan head on top of a very dark brew. only the slightest fraction of a millimeter on the very edges can give way to a little red light transparency... some brown carbonated bubbles reside below the fill line showing some trapped carbonation, although there is not a whole lot.
the sniffer isn't picking up a whole lot on this but that just means they aren't using anyhting over-powering for flavor.... there seems to be the typical vanilla, toffee, slight bitter sweet chocolate, roasted malts...
taste is the same as the smell, and there is less bitterness than most stouts. creamy mouthfeel which easily rolls past the tongue and down the throat with little interruption. this is a very nice, very satisfying, high abv brew. sometimes I wonder if the class of 'superstars' isn't solely made up of ratings, coercion, or placing at the beer events, but we all have our particular tastes and oftentimes they don't match those of the 'judges'. but this is a very high quality stout. easy to drink, with some decent flavor if although nothing is really standing out prominently, and I would love to try this one on tap again if I get the opportunity.... the taste was accomplished at BT's Southern BBQ in Huntington Beach along with some great food... for appearance and taste, I felt it deserved the 4.75, but I hesitated to give it an overall score of the same. it is easily a 4.5 overall and has convinced me I need another trip down san diego way to experience more of these awesome brews from this brewery.

On tap at beachwood Seal Beach served in a tulip. Body is dark brown and nearly opaque with a thin tan head. Some lace webbing on the glass. Aroma is roasty malts, unsweetened chocolate, vanilla, caramel, barrel wood, coconut, and dark fruit. Taste is initially sweet with dark malt, fig, plum, and toffee flavors, followed by a cocoa and wood bitterness. Medium-full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, boozy, drying finish.
