Style: American Strong Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
By far our most famous brew, Honey Hips provides a pale golden color with aromas of clover honey and spicy citrus. Light and earthy flavors with a touch of malt sweetness in the front leaves you begging for the back. She may be dangerously drinkable with a clean finish, but proceed with caution. This blonde is strong enough to make your head swim.

I absolutely love the honey flavor. The light beer look decieves the beauty of this blonde!

Misc.: Reviewed as an American Strong Ale

Had this twice before, but first time actually reviewing it. Excited to review it, but I think it’s going to be hard to get Firestone Helldorado out of my head for some reason. I know it’s not the same style, but I don’t know if I can separate it.

Poured a yellow, deep gold to light, amber, clear color (est. 6-to-9 lovibonds) with two fingers of frothy, white head, which dissipated quickly. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Bad watery lacing. Poor retention. (Sight - 3.25)

Smelled honey, vanilla, floral hops, lemon zest, muted green apple and a hint of Citra hops (I think). (Smell - 4.25)

Taste followed the nose nicely, getting honey, floral hops, vanilla, pear, green apple, grassy hops and some citrus zest. Not really tasting the 8.3 percent. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)

Really liked this once again. Definitely Helldorado adjace, but I could drink this all day. Give me a keg of this now. (Overall - 4.00)

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance –– Pours with a delightful, effervescent, creamy, eggshell white head that dissolves quickly and may benefit from some agitation.

Smell –– Wow! Fresh and bright and fun. Raw honey, berries, mild hops, apple and creamsicle. No booze whatsoever.

Taste –– Great! Like the smell, with cantaloupe and honeydew. This beer somehow has what at first seemed to be a very sweet edge –– in a very palatable way –– but that sweetness becomes MUCH less apparent partway through a glass, a transition unlike most "sweeter" beers where the opposite usually holds true. Fresh apple cider on the end of a swallow. At its warmest, honey becomes clearer with a subtle, baked sweetness evocative of ancient meads.

Mouthfeel –– Awesome firmness and fizzyness, unique overall texture; more fine carbonation than an IPA, with a bit of the bready bite of a wheatier beer.
Fascinating. Fills the mouth well.

Overall –– Refreshing and interesting, and definitely something different for me, this "Strong Blonde" shows no sign of its 8.3% ABV and is dangerously drinkable. Very cool offering that could be great on a hot day, or even in the fall/winter months by the fireplace. Nice!

Look: dark yellow. Little head that dissipated quickly. Little lacing. Quite lively, lots of bubbling.
Smell: Full of clover, floral hops, a lot of honey smell.
Taste: Quite sweet due to honey. Some maltiness. Hoppiness comes up at the end, but not too much.
Feel: strong after taste. Full of honey sweetness in the mouth. You can really feel the alcohol heating up your body.

Verdict: It's a nice brew, but a bit too honey-like sweet for me, with quite little hoppiness.

Well, it's quite a Blonde Ale. Certainly strong though you absolutely don't sense the alcohol content. Attractive amber color in the small tulip with sufficient head and carbonation. There is a really interesting roasted taste along with the light malt. Spicy and spritzy mouthfeel, though rather light bodied. Fragrant with a distinct tang of honey, but without the sickly sweet flavor of too much of the stuff.

Quite a refreshing change from a whole lot of strong beers that are over-hopped and over-spiced. A big beer with a refreshing quality-- subtlety. On tap at Tiger Tiger on El Cajon Blvd.
